This week’s highlights include the last of the Summer Symphony Nights, a celebration of the arts at Rice University, and a rugby playoff opener—plus celebrations of Colombia, DJ Screw, and the moon landing.

  • The MBA Tour Houston at JW Marriott Houston Downtown | Tuesday, July 16 | FREE with RSVP – Meet and network with leading business school admissions experts, get expert tips on MBA admissions tests, win prizes and giveaways, and make a big move to get your career to the next level. 6pm to 10pm.
  • Houston World Series of Dog Shows at NRG Center | Wednesday, July 17 to Sunday, July 21 | FREE on Wednesday – See a field of four-legged friends compete in a series of events, across 150 different breeds, vying for the coveted “Best in Show.” Competitive events include flyball, creative grooming, a frisbee exhibition, and canine musical freestyle. $15; free for ages 12 and under; free on Wednesday $10 on Thursday. 8am to 5pm.
  • Comedian Dauood Naimyar at The Riot Comedy Club | Thursday, July 18 – Emerging from the chart-topping debut comedy release, Pier 69: Junior Varsity, Naimyar brings a unique perspective to the upstairs stage in Montrose, sharing new material that draws from his experiences as an Afghan American and the world as he sees it. $15 and up. 7pm.
  • UniverSoul Circus at Butler Stadium | Thursday, July 18 to Sunday, July 21 – The all-human circus concludes its Houston run, showcasing acts and talent from five continents, world music, and dance styles from across the African diaspora. Showtimes vary.
  • Summer Symphony Nights with Houston Symphony at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Friday, July 19 & Saturday, July 20 | FREE – Annelle K. Gregory performs alongside the Houston Symphony for Alexander Glazunov’s lush and bittersweet violin concerto. Plus, Elgar’s Enigma Variations serve as a touching tribute to the composer’s closest friends and loved ones. 8:30pm.
  • Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey: The Greatest Show On Earth at NRG Stadium (Canceled) | Friday, July 19 to Sunday, July 21 The circus is coming to town as children of all ages are invited to the highly-anticipated tour of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey: The Greatest Show On Earth. 
  • Ohana Surf Dog Competition at Galveston’s Seawall Beachfront | Saturday, July 20 | FREE to Watch – See Galveston’s beach dogs take to their boards and surf the waves in a fun, crowd-pleasing all ages fundraiser for Galveston Island Humane Society. 7:30am to noon.
  • Summer Jam 2024 at Moody Center for the Arts | Saturday, July 20 | FREE – The Rice University arts gallery is transformed for the annual Summer Jam, offering an indoor farmers market, hot food vendors, art activities, face painters, grooves from DJ Perez, complimentary drinks by Saint Arnold, gallery tours and more. Free to attend; $6 for parking. Noon to 5pm.
  • Colombian Fest International at Houston City Hall | Saturday, July 20 – Celebrate Colombian independence at Texas’ biggest celebration of its kind, boasting authentic art and food, as well as a local market, children’s games and more. Featured artists include Yeison Jimenez, the Lebron Brothers, Legacy of Timbiqui, Miguel Morales, and local talent from right here in Houston. $25 and up. 1pm to 10pm.
  • Screwed Up Records & Tapes presents DJ Screw Day at George R. Brown Convention Center | Saturday, July 20 – This first-ever celebration on DJ Screw’s birthday is presented by the iconic Screw shop in South Houston, featuring a day of music with Houston rappers Bun B, K-Rino, Lil Flip and more, plus a custom car show, local vendors, and other fun celebrating a Houston legend. $45. 1pm to 6pm.
  • Summer Block Party at Art League Houston | Saturday, July 20 | FREE – The annual block party closes out summer exhibitions at the Montrose gallery, featuring last looks at a trio of art exhibitions, a local vendor market, and music from Ice House Radio. 6pm to 9pm.
  • MLR Playoffs: Houston SaberCats vs. Dallas Jackals at Sabercats Stadium | Saturday, July 20 – After a franchise-best record in Major League Rugby, the SaberCats enter the playoffs as the top team to beat. They’ll host the Jackals in a rematch of the regular season finale, which saw Houston edge Dallas by one point. $25 and up. 6:30pm.
  • Strand Summer Series: Roman Holiday Movie Screening at Hendley Green | Saturday, July 20 | FREE – The monthly movie series at Galveston’s Hendley Green returns with a screening of the 1953 rom-com, Roman Holiday, starring Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn. Beer and wine will be available for purchase on-site. 6:30pm to 9pm.
  • Missy Elliott in Concert at Toyota Center | Saturday, July 20 – The renown pioneer of the modern female rap scene, Ms. Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott brings her Out Of This World experience, joined by massive musical heavyweights Ciara, Busta Rhymes and Timbaland. $75 and up. 7pm.
  • Brewsology Beer Fest at Houston Museum of Natural Science | Saturday, July 20 – Taking over HMNS after hours, the Brewsology Beer Fest rocks samples from dozens of local craft breweries and cideries, including SpindleTap, Lone Pint, City Orchard, Galveston Island Brewing and more. $55 and up. 7pm to 11pm.
  • Moon Day at the Menil Collection | Saturday, July 20 | FREE – Celebrate the 55th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing at this free community event at the Menil in Montrose. Take in a night of stargazing with telescopes, NASA footage projections, a soundtrack by Peter Lucas, a special appearance by Dr. Gary H. Kitmacher of Johnson Space Center, and more. 8pm to 10pm.
  • TraeDay Family Funday at SaberCats Stadium | Sunday, July 21 | FREE – Houston rapper Trae Tha Truth celebrates the 16th year of his TraeDay celebration with a free family festival in South Houston. Families can come by to get free school supplies, backpacks and other giveaways, plus everyone can enjoy games, rides, slabs and exotic cars, celebrity appearances, and more. 2pm to 7pm.
