Top 11 Things To Do for Kids & Families in Houston This Week

  • Houston Salutes American Heroes: Veterans Day Celebration in Downtown | Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11 | FREE – This civic celebration honors and celebrates the brave men, women and families who have fought and sacrificed for the country’s liberty and freedom. The event opens with acknowledgements and a keynote speaker, before a Moment of Silence and American Heroes Parade. Free to attend. 10am; parade begins at 11:30am.
  • Shadow Puppet Theatre at the Woodlands Children’s Museum | Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11  Bring the kiddos over to the Woodlands Children’s Museum for Shadow Puppet Theatre, an introduction to storytelling elements that allows the audience to interact directly with each other while children of all ages are enchanted with animated shadows. For this week, Shadow Puppet Theatre presents If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff. Included with general admission; $7 for ages 1 and up. 11am.
  • Texas Winter Lights at Marriott Marquis Houston | Opens Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11  Have some Texas-sized fun in the 6th floor Altitude Rooftop & Pool at the Marriott Marquis in Downtown during Texas Winter Lights, an interactive light experience available nightly. Enjoy huge light displays, walk-through experiences and more than 20 ‘Gram-worthy elements. Stick around for a nightly “snowfall” and a winter-themed dining menu. Tickets are $20; this event is held nightly through Monday, January 3, 2022. 5pm to 10pm.
  • 68th Annual Gem, Mineral, Jewelry & Fossil Show at Humble Civic Center | Friday, November 12 to Sunday, November 14 Feast your eyes and mind on earthly treasures and mind-challenging demonstrations at the 68th Annual HGMS Gem, Mineral, Jewelry & Fossil Show at the Humble Civic Center. Eager-to-learn attendees will find plenty to engage themselves such as a wide array of educational exhibitions and demonstrations that include lessons on jewelry making, beading, lapidary and fossil identifications. Tickets are $8 at the door and good for all 3 days; ages 10 and under (accompanied by an adult) are free. 9am to 6pm on Friday and Saturday, 10am to 5pm on Sunday.
  • Frostival at Discovery Green | Opens Friday, November 12 – Enjoy the crisp winter air when Discovery Green hosts its opening night of the Green Mountain Energy Ice rink alongside an ice sculpture carving from Reverend Butter and live music by Sir Woman. The first 50 skaters in line skate for free. $15; skate rental included. 5pm to 10pm.
  • Night Market at Asia Society Texas Center | Friday, November 12 | FREE This festive night market will feature 40+ local AAPI-owned restaurants and small businesses, celebrating the vibrant diversity of Houston’s Asian American communities. Expect games and activities for all ages, K-Pop performances, free after-hours exhibitions, and a variety of food trucks and local artisan vendors. 6pm to 10pm.
  • Abominable Movie Screening at Sugar Land Town Square | Saturday, November 13 | FREE Take the kids out to Sugar Land Town Square to catch an outdoor screening of the 2019 animated movie, Abominable, on the plaza. After discovering a Yeti on the roof of her apartment building, teenage Yi and her two friends embark on an epic quest to reunite the magical creature with his family. 6:30pm.
  • Trolls World Tour Movie Screening at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | Saturday, November 13 Bring the whole family out to Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in the Woodlands for an outdoor screening of the 2020 DreamWorks movie, Trolls World Tour. Mezzanine and lawn seating are free. Tickets for orchestra seating are $10 each and include unlimited popcorn. 7pm.
  • Wild Child & Marley Moon in Concert at Elm & Magnolia | Sunday, November 14 | FREE – Elm & Magnolia in Spring hosts the final stop of Wild Child and Marley Moon’s Texas tour. Wild Child’s folksy sound in combination with Marley Moon’s retro rock vibes is a great way to end your Sunday night. 2pm to 7pm.
  • Jazzy Sunday Series: Jewel Brown with RADS Krusaders at Buffalo Bayou Park | Sunday, November 14 | FREE The Water Works at Buffalo Bayou Park hosts another installment of the weekly jazz series with Jewel Brown and RADS Krusaders showcasing the legacy and evolution of jazz in Houston. 4pm.
  • 2021 Houston Women’s Polo Championship at Houston Polo Club | Sunday, November 14 – See the top women polo players from around the world compete in the 2021 Houston Women’s Polo Championship at Houston Polo Club. Enjoy prize drawings, music, a player parade, expert announcing, a champagne divot stomp at halftime and a special trophy presentation after the match. Individual tickets are $32.50; $15.50 for ages 12 and under. 1:30pm.
