- Labor Day Drone Show in Downtown Galveston | Sunday, September 1 | FREE – Cap off your summer at a free, family-friendly party in historic downtown Galveston that will be capped off by 12-minute drone show lighting up the sky over Saengerfest Park. Grab your spot for live entertainment that starts at 7:30pm, with the drone show launching at dusk—around 8:30pm.
- End of Summer Fireworks at Kemah Boardwalk | Sunday, September 1 – Kemah Boardwalk is sending off summer by lighting up the sky with a spectacular fireworks show. The amusement thrills and rides go all day, live music kicks off in the Plaza starting at 1pm, and the dazzling fireworks display goes off at 9:30pm. Families can also board the Boardwalk Beast Fireworks Cruise for $40 purchased onsite (boarding begins at 9pm).
- Family Sundays at Minute Maid Park | Sundays, September 1, 8 & 22 – Sunday home games at Minute Maid Park are Family Sundays, where young ‘Stros fans can cheer on their favorite ball players and families can enjoy grand slam deals including Family 4-Pack options with four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas. Times vary.
- Labor Day Fun at Lone Star Flight Museum – Say bon voyage to summer with free hot dogs, chips and a drink as all ages can explore STEM experiences, flight simulators, drawings, crafts and more along with DC-3, Howard 250 and Rover tours from 10:30am to 2pm. $10. 10am to 5pm.
- Professional Sandcastle Building Lessons at East Beach | Saturdays Through September 28 | FREE – The island’s popular-for-all-ages weekly summer sandcastle building lessons from the pros continue through September, wrapping up for the season on the last Saturday of the month. There’s no registration, so just walk up before the class begins. 11am, 1pm and 3pm each week.
- Tiny Meteorologist: Aviation Play for Toddlers at Lone Star Flight Museum | Saturday, September 7 – Bring your future meteorologists and pilots out for an hour of developmental playtime in the toddler terminal, where they can spark their curiosity with hands-on activities. Tickets for one parent and toddler are $12; $10 for members. Additional guests age 5 and up are $10 each. All tickets include museum admission after playtime. 9am to 10am.
- Red Bull Showrun at Discovery Green | Saturday, September 7 – For one day only, the Red Bull Showrun comes to Downtown, showcasing two championship-winning F1 cars revving their engines and racing up and down the iconic Discovery Green. The admission-free outdoor exhibition will be led by legendary British racing legend David Coulthard and current Red Bull Junior Driver Arvid Lindblad. Folks can also expect musical entertainment, a mid-race DJ battle, and all-ages free Fan Zone with merch, F1 racing simulators, food trucks and more. Noon to 2pm.
- Tyke Hikes at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center | Mondays, September 9 through 23 – Crafted for youngin’s age 18 months to 4 years old, 45-minute Tyke Hikes invite kids on an interactive nature exploration through the Arboretum and discover more about the natural world around them, from themed walks to stroller-friendly hikse on the beautiful Arboretum trails. $7 per child; free for members and ages 17 months and under. Hikes at 9:30am and 10:30am each day.
HALS Public Train Ride Day at Zube Park | Saturday, September 21 | FREE – Amateur conductors can get in the locomotive action at Zube Park on the third Saturday of most months, when the Houston Area Live Steamers offer free rides to the public. All ages are welcome to ride and no reservations needed, just get in line and enjoy the 12 to 15 minute train ride. 9am to 1pm. - Mid-Autumn Festival at Children’s Museum Houston | Saturday, September 21 – The Vietnamese Culture and Science Association and Children’s Museum Houston once again team up to host the Mid-Autumn celebration, with family-friendly activities like lantern making and storytelling, a Soaring Phoenix Lion Dance, fun costume contests, and more. Included with museum admission, which is $19.95; $17.95 for ages 65+; free for members and ages 11 months and younger. 9am to 5pm.
- Pirate ‘n Mermaid Day at Woodlands Children’s Museum | Saturday, September 21 – Come aboard the Woodlands Children’s Museum’s version of the Jolly Roger and hunt for hidden treasures at this Pirate ‘n Mermaid adventure. Kids can enjoy meet-and-greets with pirates and Princess Ariel, plus storytime and more. The event is included in the price of admission. $9; free for under 12 months. 10:30am to 2pm.
- Mystical Mermaids at Children’s Museum Houston | Saturday, September 28 – Little ones can enjoy magical, mystical storytime experience and meet-and-greet with Disney’s Ariel. Kids 5+ can also sign up to craft their own under-the-sea globe. The mermaid experience is included with general admission. Storytime takes place at 11am, noon, and 1pm. 9am to 5pm.
- Kidz Bop: Live 2024 in Concert at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | Saturday, September 28 – The talented Kidz Bop crew will sing and move to your favorite pop songs, including hits like “Shake it Off,” “Dance Monkey,” “Old Town Road,” and more. $29.50 and up, but you may also find cheaper, better, or hard-to-get seats on the online ticket resale market. 6pm.
- Sesame Street Live! Say Hello at Smart Financial Centre | Sunday, September 29 – Little fans can hang with Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster, and their other favorite characters from Sesame Street at this playful song and dance show. Tickets are $29 and up for everyone age 1 and up. Families can add-on experiences from VIP lounging to photo opportunities. 2pm.
