Classical music and dance are in the spotlight this week, with several events demonstrating the sheer depth of artistry we have here in Houston.

The former music director of the Houston Symphony leads a concert at Our Texas Cultural Center. You can attend Bach’s birthday party—and hear one of the composer’s most majestic pieces. The Houston Symphony performs a Beethoven work you’re surely familiar with, along with a brand-new piece commissioned to showcase the orchestra’s timpanist. How cool is that?

The City Ballet of Houston premieres new works this week, as well. And Performing Arts Houston offers a showcase for new creations.

I grew up in New England, where prep school culture is hard to escape, whether you attend one or not. So, I am looking forward to seeing how that culture manifests in the latest show from The Ensemble Theatre. And I’m shouting out the annual Heights Kids Day of Music event, designed to help young people experience the arts.

There’s much more besides. Go see performing arts, Houston!
