March begins Houston’s official spring festival season, kicking off with the biggest event of the year, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, but surrounded by other favorites like Bayou City Art Festival, spring break, St. Patrick’s Day, and more.
And an old summer favorite, the free Theater District Open House, also makes a welcome return debut for the first time since August 2019, before the pandemic.

16th Annual Houston Holi at BH Ranch | Saturday, March 1 – Wear white, casual clothes that you don’t mind getting dyed, for a fun, energetic, festival of colors marking the traditional Indian spring celebration of the triumph of the divine over evil. Expect Bollywood and other Indian music and dance, a carnival, food and more. $15 in advance; $20 day of, but you can save $5 with promo code HOU365. 11am to 5pm.
Houston Dynamo FC vs. Inter Miami CF at Shell Energy Stadium | Saturday, March 2 – Captain Lionel Messi is expected to be the main event as the Dynamo defend home pitch from the Dade County invaders. $201 and up; you may also find better, cheaper or hard-to-get seats with a 20% discount on the TN online ticket resale market with promo code HOUSTON20. 6pm.
114th Mardi Gras! Galveston in Downtown Galveston | Ongoing to Fat Tuesday, March 4 – The nation’s third largest Mardi Gras continues with a second and final full weekend of parades, balcony parties, family events, and live performers. $17 and up; free for ages 12 and under. The party concludes with a free parade and celebration on Fat Tuesday itself, March 4. Times vary.
Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo at NRG Park | Tuesday, March 4 to Sunday, March 23 – The entire city is abuzz with the return of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, featuring rodeo action, live concerts, and a variety of all ages fun from carnival rides and games, outrageous festival food, and more. Special days include Armed Forces Appreciation Day on Wednesday March 5, Family Wednesdays on March 5 and 19, Sensory Friendly Day on Thursday, March 6, Black Heritage Day on Friday, March 7, First Responders Day on Monday, March 10, and Go Tejano Day on Sunday, March 16. Theater District Open House 2025 in Downtown Houston | Monday, March 10 | FREE – For the first time since before the pandemic, the Theater District Open House is back. The free, family-friendly event invites Houstonians for exciting day of inspiration and discovery with interactive performances, activities, and behind-the-scenes experiences. Noon to 5pm.
Houston Latino Film Festival at MATCH | Wednesday, March 12 to Sunday, March 16 – The annual film festival promoting Latino culture has culled nearly 500 worldwide submissions down to an exciting festival lineup that features more than 60 short and feature-length films. Across MATCH’s several stages, the film festival will screen throughout 5 days, with several screenings accompanied by the filmmakers and directors in attendance. $14 single screenings; $65 all access passes, $40 for students and teachers. International Art & Kite Festival at The Crown Festival Park in Sugar Land | Saturday, March 22 | FREE – Look to the sky for high flying kites and a day full of family entertainment. The festival celebrates culture and community through art, music, dancing and food, plus you can marvel at art cars and catch live performances. 10am to 4pm.
Houston Brazilian Carnaval at Ayva Center | Saturday, March 22 – Arrive in your best Carnaval attire for an epic night of authentic Samba music and dancing to Rio’s legendary Samba band, Fundo De Quintal. $45 and up. 8pm to 11:30pm.
21st Annual Houston Jewish Film Festival at Evelyn R. Rubenstein JCC | Saturday, March 22 to Saturday, April 5 – The annual festival kicks off in March, ushering in a series of entertaining and exceptional award-winning films that showcase Jewish lives and stories. Individual screenings are $9 and up; pick-three films is available for $55. Times vary.
16th Annual Nowruz Festival at Bayou City Event Center | Sunday, March 23 – This annual festival from the Iranian Cultural Foundation features a live concert by 25 Band, joined by host Ehsan Karami, and special Persian folkloric dance performances by Louchia and more. Tickets are $30 and up; $5 for children ages 2 to 10 and free for ages 2 and under. 3pm.

Tomball German Heritage Festival in Old Town Tomball | Friday, March 28 to Sunday, March 30 | FREE – Tomball’s annual German Fest fills the streets with more than 200 vendors rocking antiques, arts and crafts, and more; plus cultural music, street performances, a Heritage Center, and tasty German fare, festival eats, and beer and wine. The weekend-long event is family-friendly and free to attend, with free parking and a shuttle service on Saturday and Sunday. Times vary.
Houston Whiskey Riot at Post Houston | Saturday, March 29 – Enter the world of whiskey as this festival offers samplings of hundreds of whiskeys, seminars and conversations with whiskey lovers, distillers, brand founders and more to arm you with the tools you need to become a whiskey expert. $75 and up. 4pm to 7pm.
Bayou City Art Festival in Downtown Houston | Saturday, March 29 & Sunday, March 30 – Houston’s iconic art festival returns this spring with artwork from more than 250 artists across 19 different categories, all on display for festival goers to browse and take home. The weekend festival will also showcase two entertainment stages, a food truck park, culinary stages, beverage stations and more. $18; $5 for ages 12 and under. 10am to 6pm.
