Events are listed chronologically by week, and are not in a ranked order. Events that span multiple weeks are carried over into the following week where appropriate.

  • Houston Restaurant Weeks at Multiple Locations | Daily | All Month Long – The Houston Food Bank’s biggest fundraiser returns for another year, offering a month-plus of tasty and charitable food and drink. Over 200 local restaurants are lined up to offer prix fixe meals for brunch, lunch and dinner (and even to-go), with a set dollar donation from each meal sold benefiting the Houston Food Bank and its mission to end hunger and provide food for better lives. Prices are $25 for brunch and lunch, $39 or $55 for dinner. Times vary by location.
  • White Linen Night in the Heights | Saturday, August 5 | No Cover – Held on the first Saturday of August, the annual block party will take over 19th Street, with shops, restaurants, vendors and artists welcoming locals for a shop, sip and stroll from 6pm to 10pm. Other neighborhood spots get in on the fun, too, with parties along White Oak, 20th Street and more.
  • Houston Shakespeare Festival presents Macbeth & Much Ado About Nothing at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Through Saturday, August 5 | FREE – This annual celebration of the Bard’s greatest works wraps up in Hermann Park. Macbeth is a story of madness, murder and power, while Much Ado About Nothing is a battle-of-the-sexes comedy. The shows are presented in repertory on alternating nights, with Much Ado serving as this year’s finale. 8:15pm.
  • Post Malone in Concert at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | Tuesday, August 8 – Following up his October appearance in Houston, the rapper and singer returns with a show in the Woodlands, promoting his brand new summer record, Austin. $205 and up. 8pm.
  • Ain’t Too Proud: The Life & Times of The Temptations at Hobby Center | Tuesday, August 8 to Sunday, August 13 – This jukebox musical tells the story of the multiple hit–making band The Temptations, from their origins in Detroit through their stratospheric rise as music superstars. Known for hits like “Just My Imagination” and “My Girl,” the show takes audiences on a nostalgic ride through the group’s catalog of music, telling a story of brotherhood, family and loyalty during a time of civil unrest in our country. Native Houstonian Brittny Smith is in the cast as Mary Wilson. $40 and up. Showtimes vary.

  • Summer Slashers: Horror Art Show + Night Market at Hardy & Nance Studios | Friday, August 11 | No Cover – Insomnia Gallery hosts a night of artistic tributes to the horror genre in film and television. Come for the art but stay for the horror-themed night market that sprawls onto the patio with local artists, makers and vendors with special horror goods. Food truck eats and complimentary beverages will be available. 7pm to midnight.
  • Galveston Island Beach Revue Weekend on Galveston Island | Friday, August 11 to Sunday, August 13 | FREE – Based on Island events from summer seasons past, like the Pageant of Pulchritude and Splash Day, the Galveston Island Revue features classic cars, vintage vendors, live music, and the crowd-favorite Bathing Beauties contest and classic car show happening on Saturday. Some events are free; others require tickets or a Weekender Pass. Times vary.
  • Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels at Minute Maid Park | Friday, August 11 to Sunday, August 13 – For the final time this regular season, MLB slugger Shohei Ohtani makes an appearance at Minute Maid for a three-game series with the ‘Stros across Hall of Fame Weekend. Enjoy special appearances by Astros legends, giveaways like a Minute Maid Park replica, and more. $25 and up. Times vary.
  • AIA Sandcastle Competition at East Beach | Saturday, August 12 & Sunday, August 13 | FREE – The annual sandcastle competition returns to Galveston for its 36th year, featuring sand masterpieces carefully crafted by teams along categories like pop culture, kids board games, Americana, space race, and more—all vying for the coveted Gold Bucket Award. Free, though parking at East Beach is $15 (cash only). 9am to 5pm.
  • Houston Reggae Fest at City Hall | Saturday, August 12 & Sunday, August 13 – The sixth annual fest returns to Downtown Houston for two days of music and chill vibes. Mykal Rose, Eek-A-Mouse, and Yemi Alade are among the entertainers taking to multiple stages, plus expect food trucks, local vendors, arts and more. $25 per day; $30 for weekend passes.

  • DaCamera presents Houston SummerJazz 2023 at Wortham Center | Thursday, August 17 to Sunday, August 20 – The annual celebration of jazz artists returns with four days of concerts, including a free show by the Jalen Baker Quartet, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, award-winning vocalist Gretchen Parlato in her Houston debut, Mwenso and the Shakes, and a special Sunday brunch event at the Lancaster. Tickets for most events are pay-what-you-can, with a minimum admission price of $10. Times vary.
  • Performing Arts Houston presents 4th Annual Mariachi Festival at Wortham Center | Friday, August 18 to Sunday, August 20 – Celebrate the creativity and enduring legacy of Mariachi music and Hispanic culture as this popular festival brings some of the biggest names in the genre to Houston, including Mariachi Mariposas and Mariachi 7 Leguas. $30 and up. 7pm.
  • NFL Preseason: Houston Texans vs. Miami Dolphins at NRG Stadium | Saturday, August 19 – Football season returns and the Texans embark on another year, facing the Dolphins in the team’s only home preseason game. $24 and up. 3pm.
  • Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa & More at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | Saturday, August 19 – Crossing the country on their High School Reunion Tour, rap legend Snoop Dogg is joined by Wiz Khalifa, Too $hort, Warren G and others with a special stop in the Woodlands. $35 and up. 6pm.
  • Comedian Slade Ham at MATCH | Saturday, August 19 – The Houston-based comedian and author heads to Midtown for a set that tackles our world covered in waves of information, social media frenzy and the everyday absurdities that bombard our lives. This performance will also be recorded for a live comedy special. $20. 7pm.
