Top 10 Things to Do with Kids this Week in Houston

  • Tyke Hikes at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center | Monday, December 5 – Children 18 months to 3 years, with their adult companions, can join a naturalist for a story reading, a simple nature activity or craft, and a stroller-friendly hike on the Arboretum trails. 9:30am to 10:30am.
  • Cheap Skate Night at The Ice at Discovery Green | Monday, December 5 – Enjoy a Monday night skate for just $8, instead of the usual $14, on the Ice at Discovery Green. 4pm to 10pm.
  • Screen on the Green: Elf at Discovery Green | Thursday, December 8 | FREE to Attend – Bring your blankets and lawn chairs over to Discovery Green for a screening of the family holiday classic Elf. 7pm to 10pm.
  • Holidays in the Plaza at Sugar Land Town Square | Friday, December 9 | FREE to Attend – Bring your friends and family to the Sugar Land Town Square for an evening of holiday entertainment and festivities. 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
  • Breakfast with Santa at the Downtown Aquarium | Saturday, December 10 – Bring the kids to meet Sharkey and Santa Claus for photos and a breakfast buffet at the Downtown Aquarium. Cost of the buffet is $13.99 for children and $19.99 for adults. 8am.
  • Gingerbread Build Off at Hermann Square Park | Saturday, December 10 | FREE to Attend – Cheer on the teams, play in the kids’ construction zone, and see Santa, while over 30 competing teams make gingerbread houses. 10am to 4:30pm.
  • Star Wars: Brink of Beyond at the Children’s Museum | Saturday, December 10 – Bring the kids and the camera when Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, and Director Orson Krennic himself make a special appearance at the Children’s Museum of Houston’s Star Wars: Brink of Beyond. Tickets are $12. 10am to 5pm.
  • Family Day: Holiday Fun at The Houston Center for Photography | Saturday, December 10 – Explore the current exhibition, The Surface of Things, with a scavenger hunt, create your own self-portrait fabric collage, and explore an alternative process by making cyanotypes. There will be a special holiday storytime starting at 12:45pm for the younger patrons. 11am to 3pm.
  • Christmas Cruises at Buffalo Bayou | Saturday, December 10 – Cruise down the bayou while enjoying festive decorations, music, and lights. Tickets are $7. 5pm to 8pm.
  • Movie Under the Moon: Elf at Sugar Land Town Square | Saturday, December 10 | FREE to Attend – Bring your family, friends, and lawn chairs to the Plaza to enjoy a free Movie Under the Moon in Sugar Land. 7pm to 9pm.
  • Elfie Selfies with Santa at The Children’s Museum | Sunday, December 11 –Take an Elfie Selfie with Santa by making and wearing your own elf hats. Then, get your camera ready, bring your wish list, and snap a selfie with jolly, old Saint Nick. Tickets are $12. Noon to 3pm.
