Things are looking up for 2022. Hangover cure brunches on New Year’s Day, exceptional wine tastings and pairing dinners, and beer-soaked chili cook-offs are all a part of the tasty culinary happenings going down in Houston this month.

  • New Year’s Day Hangover Cure Brunch at B&B Butchers & Restaurant | New Year’s Day, Saturday, January 1 – Recover from 2021 with a New Year’s Day brunch on the rooftop of B&B Butchers on Washington Ave. Guests can enjoy live music, eye-opening cocktails, decadent brunch classics, and a black-eyed peas and greens special. Reservations are required.
  • New Year’s Day Brunch at Monkey’s Tail | New Year’s Day, Saturday, January 1 – Smash burgers with fried ham and egg, gravy-smothered sopas, and Mexican hot chicken thigh and masa waffles drizzled with chilé agave syrup are all a part of the hangover-curing brunch menu at Mexican American kitchen and cocktail bar in Northside. 11am to 3pm.
  • A Wizard’s Christmas Dinner & Marketplace at the Ballroom at Bayou Place | Friday, January 7 to Sunday, January 9 (Canceled) – Harry Potter fans can journey to Hogwarts for an immersive dinner inspired by the Great Hall feast. The event includes access to shop in the Magical Marketplace, a cash bar with magical cocktails (including butterbeer), and a four-course meal. Tickets are $119.99, with couples and group discounts available. Hours vary.
  • Butcher Demo at Revival Market | Tuesday, January 11 Agricole Hospitality’s Morgan Weber and Chef Steve Lamborn will talk all things hog at this butchery demo. Guests can enjoy small bites throughout the demo as well as a Revival Market charcuterie display. Tickets are $125 and house beer and wine will be included (but you can BYOB, too). Add on a Revival Butcher Box, and take home a selection of pork to cook at home. 5:30pm to 8:30pm.
  • Truchard Vineyards Wine Tasting at Revival Market | Friday, January 14 – Revival Market invites wine enthusiasts to a special night of tasting and learning about Truchard Vineyards in Napa, California. All wines will be paired with small bites from the kitchen, as well as a charcuterie and cheese display to snack on throughout the night. Tickets are $85. 5:30pm to 8:30pm.
  • Mixology Cocktail Class at Trez Art and Wine Bar | Saturday, January 15 – Every month, Trez puts on a fun afternoon of cocktail making and tasting. The class will learn expert techniques to craft three cocktails. $50 per person, plus gratuity, and includes discounts on food. 2pm to 4pm.
  • Hop Topic World’s Annual Chili Cook-Off at Holler Brewing Co. | Sunday, January 16 – Taste through chilis and enjoy Holler craft beers at this annual chili cook-off. General admission is $18 and includes unlimited chili samples, a swag bag (for the first 50 tickets), a voting token and giveaways. Noon; judging begins at 2pm.
  • Mount Peak Wine Dinner at Artisans Restaurant | Thursday, January 20 – Artisans Executive Chef Russell Kirkham and Mount Peak Estate Ambassador Tobi West are teaming up for an evening of beautifully curated wines and food pairings. $129 per person (plus tax and gratuity). 6:45pm. 
  • Hops ‘N’ Hot Sauce Festival at SpindleTap Brewery | Saturday, January 22 Benefiting Addi’s Faith Foundation, the 6th annual Hops N’ Hot Sauce Festival features samples from over 65 vendors of everything from hot sauces and salsas to seasonings, jerky and more. Plus, see brave souls tackle the Hot Pepper Eating Contest and Pizza de Muerte Eating Challenge, along with live music and DJ beats, food trucks, kid-friendly activities, and tasty SpindleTap suds. $10 at the door; free for ages 12 and under. 11am to 6pm.
  • 7th Annual Chili Cook-off at Ladybirds | Saturday, January 29 – Washington Heights’ neighborhood bar and hangout, Ladybirds, will host its seventh annual chili cook-off, where guests can taste through a lineup of fiery chilis and vote for their favorites. $25 for all-you-can-eat chili and a beer or frozen drink. Noon to 5pm.
