And if you are looking to take a few new steps, then check out some of our favorites things going on in Houston this weekend in our list below.

  • Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park | Friday through Sunday – Celebrate a day of art in Houston’s own vast green space as 450 artists display their works at an outdoor festival featuring live entertainment, food trucks, wine, beer, a children’s creative zone and more. $15 ages 13 and up; $3 ages 3 to 12. 10am to 6pm daily.
  • Tomball German Heritage Festival | FREE | Friday to Sunday – Enjoy three days of German and ethnic heritage on the streets of old downtown Tomball. There will be five stages hosting live music, great food, beer, wine, 175 street vendors, strolling musicians and kids rides and entertainment. Friday 6pm to 10pm; Saturday 10am to 10pm; Sunday 10am to 6pm.
  • 100 Years of Broadway with the Houston Symphony | Friday through Sunday – Conductor Michael Krajewski leads the Symphony in an exhilarating performance of Broadway’s greatest, including Phantom of the Opera’s “Music of the Night,” The Lion King’s “Circle of Life” and My Fair Lady‘s “I Could have Danced All Night.” $29 to $126. 8pm Friday and Saturday; 7:30pm Sunday.
  • The Color Purple at Hobby Center | Friday through Sunday – Grammy award-winner Jennifer Holliday leads this musical version of the Alice Walker’s groundbreaking 1982 novel. Tickets are still available for direct purchase, but it’s worth checking to see if you can find cheaper or better seats on the resale market.
  • Houston Children’s Festival in Downtown Houston | Saturday and Sunday – Join 50,000 people as the largest children’s festival in the country takes over the parks, streets and plazas surrounding City Hall. Find more than 300 activities in 11 family fun zones, plus live music on seven stages with Disney Channel stars China Anne McClain and Debby Ryan headlining. $10 online; $12 at the gate. 10:30am to 6:30pm both days.
  • Crawfish Boil on the Patio at Tony Mandola’s | Saturday and Sunday – Enjoy freshly seasoned gulf coastal crawfish at Tony Mandola’s with live music on Saturday from 3pm to 9pm and on Sunday from noon to 2pm. Crawfish served Saturday 11am to 9pm; Sunday 11am to 8pm.
  • Houston Astros vs. Rojos del Aguila de Veracruz Exhibition Game at Minute Maid Park | Saturday and Sunday – See the Astros host the boys from Veracruz, Mexico in two exhibition games. Tickets are still available at Ticketmaster. You’ll likely find cheaper of better seats on TicketNetwork’s resale market. Saturday 7pm; Sunday 1pm.

  • Bingo Bash at Hotel Derek – Turn your grandma’s bingo game on its ear at this event that brings cocktails, tastings, valet parking and style to your game board. 6pm to 9pm.
  • Bayou City Outdoors Meet and Greet at Cottonwood | FREE to attend – Join the social people of Bayou City Outdoors at a patio happy hour gathering that’s open to the public. 6:30pm to 9:30pm.
  • Wine + Art “Four French Soirées” No. 2 at MFAH – Take part in a class pairing great French art with delicious French wines, led by instructor James King of the Texas Wine School. $65 nonmembers; $55 MFAH members. 6:30pm to 8pm.
  • Houston Rockets vs. Philadelphia 76ers at Toyota Center – See the Rockets crack some bells as the liberate the ball from Philly. Tickets are available from Toyota Center, but you can likely find cheaper or better seats on the resale market. 7pm.
  • Napa Valley Dreams Documentary Screening and Wine Tasting at 14 Pews – Explore the terrain, culture and (most importantly) the product of the Napa Valley wine region in this short documentary from Rodney Vance, with wine pairings and tasting lesson led by The Wine Man’s David Maggard. $22. 7pm to 9:30pm.
  • Mad Max Movie Screening at Sundance Cinema in Downtown | FREE – Houston International Fest is kicking off a film festival leading up to the big event weekend next month. The first of four Australia films to be shown at a free weekly screening is the 1979 dystopian Australian action flick starring Mel Gibson. 7:30pm.
  • Israel Philharmonic Orchestra at Jones Hall – Israel’s national orchestra returns to Houston for the first time since 1993 and the third time ever. Principal guest conductor Gianandrea Noseda leads a performance featuring Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique and Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite and Daphnis et Chloé: Suite No. 2. Discount tickets available. 8pm.
