  • Library Book Sale at Maud Smith Marks Library | No Cover – Head to the Katy area library to purchase used hardcover and paperback titles in a variety of genres from fiction to nonfiction and children’s titles, beginning at $1. Proceeds from the sale will benefit library programming. 10am to 4pm.
  • Author Indie Book Fair at Spring Street Studios | No Cover – Eighty-nine independent authors from around Texas will be on hand to discuss, sell and sign their work. This family-friendly event in the Arts District includes writers working across multiple genres. Tikkas and Takkos will be on site with food and drink, and artists who work and create at Spring Street Studios will open their doors to showcase their own creativity. 10am to 6pm.
  • Battleship Texas Day at the Lone Star Flight Museum – Celebrate the historic ship, currently docked in Galveston for repairs, at this day of events that includes discussions about its history and an up-close look at one of the ship’s anti-aircraft gunners. Members from the Battleship Texas Foundation will be on hand to discuss details of restoration and share their love for the ship, commissioned in 1914 as one of the most powerful weapons in the world. $18; discounts for ages 17 and under. 10:30am to 3pm.
  • Carmella Full of Wishes Community Event at MECA | FREE – Main Street Theater for Youth teams up with MECA in Sixth Ward for a family-friendly afternoon that includes a play, plus Carmella herself will read the children’s book by Matt de la Peña, about a little girl who picks a dandelion and makes a very special wish for her family. There will also be crafts and treats. 1pm.
  • One-Minute Meditation at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston | FREE – Drop in for this contemplative experience inspired by the exhibit Ming Smith: Feeling the Future. You’ll also learn how you can incorporate this meditation into your daily practice. 1pm to 4pm.
  • Summer Dream Bash at Urban South HTX Brewery | FREE – Expect a waterslide and other activities where you can splash and cool down at this family-friendly event at the Arts District brewery. Look for a live DJ, photo booth, face painting and other activities to celebrate the end of summer. 1pm to 6pm.

  • Doc Dissections at the Health Museum – Dissect an organ (a heart, an eye or a brain) individually, in a pair, or as a group of four. You’ll receive guidance from a doctor and one of the Health Museum’s science educators while learning about the organ’s anatomy and how to keep a healthy body. $25 and up. 2pm to 3pm.
  • Cooking & Cocktails Class with Chef Rafael Ortiz at the Westin Downtown – Join Chef Rafael Ortiz for an evening of mingling and learning as he guides you through the step-by-step process of crafting Tres Leches. You’ll also have the opportunity to indulge in a mouthwatering Paloma cocktail, guided by a specialty mixologist. $75. 2pm to 5pm.
  • Friends of the Phoenix BBQ Benefit for Daniel Ramon at The Phoenix | No Cover – This fundraiser raises money for Daniel Ramon, who was hit in a car collision on the way to work in the Woodlands, resulting in two months of hospital stays, surgeries and therapy. Barbecue sandwiches and plates are available for purchase, and there will be live music, a dunk tank, raffle and more. Food will be served from 4pm to 8pm or whenever it runs out. 3pm to 9pm.
  • National Battle of the Bands at NRG Stadium – Kicking off the fall marching band season, this annual competition sees the country’s top bands battling it out on the Texans’ gridiron. TSU’s Ocean of Soul Marching Band highlights the lineup, alongside six other HBCU programs. $20 and up. 6pm.
  • Yappy Hour at the San Luis Resort | No Cover – The Seawall-facing resort in Galveston hosts a dog-friendly happy hour benefiting the Galveston Island Humane Society. 6pm to 8pm.
  • Drag Queen Bingo at Sesh Coworking – Play rounds of high-energy bingo in Midtown and take in drag queen performances, hosted by Jasmen Pierce. The proceeds from this evening benefits Magpies and Peacocks, a nonprofit that upcycles and repurposes fashion waste. $60. 6pm to 9pm.
  • Comedians Please Don’t Destroy at White Oak Music Hall – The Saturday Night Live trio consisting of Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy make a special appearance at White Oak, bringing their brand of surreal, off-color humor to the downstairs stage. $35. 7pm.

Kicking off the fall marching band season, this annual competition sees the country’s top bands battling it out on the Texans’ gridiron. TSU’s Ocean of Soul Marching Band highlights the lineup, alongside six other HBCU programs.

  • Kinky Circus and Artist Market: Circus Matinee at Numbers Nightclub – Come out to the iconic Montrose night spot for the quartely bash, featuring local aerial performers, artists, giveaways, music, food, and an artisan market. Movie-themed costumes are encouraged. $35 and up. 7pm.
  • Neon Garden at Axelrad | FREE – The monthly series returns to Axelrad with a free outdoor concert, a Super Smash Bros. tournament, and retro video game stations set up throughout the venue alongside art installations. 7pm to 2am.
  • Summer Gospel Explosion at MATCH – The lineup includes artists such as RJ Flemister, DaVizion, and Jimmy and the Band, along with gospel rapper Oquine Urgency, and headliner II Samuel N Harmony in a concert that offers praise through music. $35 and up. 7pm.
  • Froggy Night at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center – Beneath our feet, in waterways and woods, Houston’s frogs have their own world. In this evening for those 16 and older, you’ll learn how people are working to help save these interesting creatures, enjoy sips from Saint Arnold and light bites, and take a guided walk through froggy territory. $50. 7pm to 9pm.
  • Starry Night at Ingenious Brewing Company | FREE – Head to the Humble brewery for an intergalactic-themed menu and outer space-themed desserts, plus Constellation Coffee Company’s booth lets you check out all of their air-roasted, hand-sorted specialty coffee and organic hand-blended tea. 7pm to 10pm.
  • Houston Dash vs. Kansas City Current at Shell Energy Stadium – In the final home match until October, the Dash celebrate some of Houston’s inspirational women leaders on Inspiring Women’s Night at the stadium. $10 and up. 7:30pm.
  • Summer Block Party with Jodeci, SWV in Concert at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion – It’s a summer vibe at the Woodlands when Jodeci and SWV celebrate the Texas heat with an R&B block party. $39 and up. 7:30pm.

The monthly series returns to Axelrad with a free outdoor concert, a Super Smash Bros. tournament, and retro video game stations set up throughout the venue alongside art installations.

  • Under the Son in Concert at Sugar Land Town Square | FREE – Get ready to groove to all your favorite classic rock tunes when the cover band performs hits by ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC and much more. 7:30pm to 9:30pm.
  • Carin León in Concert at Toyota Center – The award-winning singer-songwriter has been hard at work bringing his particular flavor of Musica Mexicana to the mainstream. Now, he celebrates the release of his much anticipated third studio album, Colmillo de Leche, with a calientisimo show in Clutch City. $91 and up. 8pm.
  • Blue Water Highway Band in Concert at Dosey Doe: the Big Barn – The Austin Americana band, with songs such as “North of L.A.” and “Alchemist,” and praised for their haunting vocals and often gothic composition, comes to the Woodlands to perform live. $20 and up. 8pm.
  • Mad Caddies in Concert at Last Concert Cafe – The ska punk band comes heads to the outdoor stage in Downtown’s warehouse district. $25 and up. 8pm.
  • Selena Forever Tribute at Main Street Crossing – Catch this concert that celebrates the Queen of Tejano, Selena, when this tribute band performs some of her biggest hits like “Como La Flor,” “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” and more. $48 and up. 8pm.
  • Comedian Danish Maqbool at the Secret Group – The nationally touring comedian known for his role as Cashier No. 1 on Hulu’s Ramy makes a stop at the EaDo comedy club. $20 and up. 8pm.
  • Apollo Chamber Players presents Trace of Time at Miller Outdoor Theatre | FREE – This musical journey of cultural connections captures several varieties of music and dance, from spirituals to the tango. The show includes works by Adolphus Hailstork, Astor Piazzolla and Latin Grammy–winning composer and bandoneon performer Hector Del Curto. 8:30pm.

  • Spiritus in Concert at Rise Rooftop | FREE – The Houston-based metal band performs a tribute to Ghost. Xero Tolerance and Black Wings are also slated to perform at the Midtown club. 3pm.
  • All-Access Tours at the 1895 Moody Mansion – This guided tour by an expert docent includes access to spaces at the Galveston historic house not typically seen by the public. It’s a chance to learn more about the home’s architecture and history, while checking out artifact storage, killer views of the city and more. $35; reservations required. 3:45pm.
  • Letsdothishouston presents Kloudz & Loud Joint Venture Bike Experience – Roll through the streets of Houston with Black-owned apparel company Kloudz & Loud, ending at Social Beer Garden in Midtown for food, drinks and the ultimate session. $13 and up; bike rentals available. 6pm.
  • The Riot Comedy Club presents Chinedu Ogu at Rudyard’s Pub – The Houston-native comedian headlines at the Riot with a set filled with his hilarious perspectives, as he tours through Texas. $20 and up. 6pm and 8pm.
  • The Australian Pink Floyd Show at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion – Experience the hits of the classic rock Hall of Famers with a laser-filled spectacle at the Woodlands venue. $29.50 and up. 7pm.
  • RBD in Concert at Minute Maid Park – Touring for the first time in 15 years, Mexican pop group RBD have reunited to make a stop at Minute Maid, marking their final concert appearance in Houston before disbanding again after the tour. $92 and up. 7pm.
