  • Summer Surprise Pop-Up at Asia Society Texas Center | Daily | Final Weekend – In its final days, this cafe takeover from Cassie Ghaffar and Sandy Nguyen—the minds behind Saigon Hustle and Sunday Press—will be serving up a fresh menu of banh mi, milk tea, Japanese-inspired sandos and more at the cafe inside Asia Society. Menu prices vary. 8:30am to 3pm.
  • Teatro Loft presents El Último Personaje De Cecilia B at MATCH | Thursday & Friday This play by Giovanny Cruz Durán explores the golden age of divas and charms—and a confession of an abominable crime. Last staged by the National Theatre Company of the Dominican Republic, it received rave reviews. Presented in Spanish. $25. Thursday 7:30pm; Friday 8pm.
  • The Riot Comedy Club presents Colum Tyrrell at Rudyard’s British Pub | Friday & Saturday  The Montrose laugh spot welcomes the Irish comedian for a series of live sets. Following his success in the Emerald Isle, Tyrrell moved to New York City, where he became a regular at clubs like Comedy Cellar and Stand Up NY. $20 and up. Times vary.
  • Galveston Island Esports Summit at Galveston Island Convention Center | Friday to Sunday – Get ready for gaming, robot battles, virtual reality, board games and more as this popular event makes its return to the Island. You’ll find interactive pods and a chance to connect with fellow game enthusiasts. $40 and up; $20 for ages 12 and under. Times vary.

  • Tattoo & Body Art Expo at NRG Park | Friday to Sunday – More than 250 of the country’s best tattoo artists will be in attendance, showing off their skills and providing on-site tattoos. Look for music, beer, contests and more throughout the weekend. $20 and up. Times vary.
  • Houston Media Conference 2023 at Post Houston | Friday to Sunday – Local and national production companies, equipment rental houses and feature speakers from film, television, digital media, legal, and financial professions come together to discuss and provide information about the business side of filmmaking. The event is free to attend, with workshop attendance starting at $50; all-access passes are $65. Times vary.
  • Werckmeister Harmonies Movie Screening at MFAH | Friday to Sunday – Catch this film, a parable of societal collapse, rendered in 39 long takes and shot in ghostly black and white. It’s the story of a Hungarian town during communist times and what happens when a mysterious circus arrives, awakening a madness in the citizens. Shown in Hungarian and Slovak with English subtitles. $9. Times vary.
  • Fuerza Regida in Concert at Smart Financial Centre | Saturday & Sunday – The superstar group of Regional Mexican norteño music are performing back-to-back nights in Sugar Land, touting their newest release, Sigan Hablando, on the Otra Peda tour. $52 and up. 8pm.
  • Houston Restaurant Weeks at Multiple Locations | Daily | Ongoing – The Houston Food Bank’s biggest fundraiser returns for another year, offering a month-plus of tasty and charitable food and drink. Over 200 local restaurants are lined up to offer prix fixe meals for brunch, lunch and dinner (and even to-go), with a set dollar donation from each meal sold benefiting the Houston Food Bank and its mission to end hunger and provide food for better lives. Prices are $25 for brunch and lunch, $39 or $55 for dinner. Times vary by location.

Suitable for all levels of science geeks, these insightful lectures help show how science works in everyday life. 5pm to 7pm.
  • Authors Brooke Bentley & John Lopez in Conversation at Brazos Bookstore | FREE – Author Brooke Bentley will discuss her novel Sideline Confidential, the story of a just-graduated sports reporter hired to cover her hometown pro football team and the double standards she encounters along the way. Bentley is a former TV anchor and sports reporter who worked in Houston for two years; John Lopez is one of Houston’s most-respected sports reporters and commentators, heard on SportsRadio610 and read in the Houston Chronicle. Copies of Sideline Confidential will be available at the event for $17. 6:30pm.
  • Caught in the Act: Drew Bacon on William Kentridge & the Art of Stop-Motion at MFAH | FREE – Artist Drew Bacon talks with curator Alison de Lima Greene about the history of stop-motion animation, as well as its use in his video productions and the heavy influence of artist William Kentridge. This lecture serves as a companion to the museum’s William Kentridge: In Praise of Shadows exhibit. 6:30pm.
  • 50 Cent, with Busta Rhymes & more in Concert at Toyota Center – Celebrating the 20th anniversary of his breakout hit, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, Fiddy performs some of his biggest hits of the past decades.   • Arachnophobia Movie Screening at Daiquiri Time Out | No Cover – Head to Galveston to enjoy the 1990 thriller, the penultimate film of DTO’s Creature Feature Movie Series. The movie tells the story of an arachnophobe doctor who must confront his fear after residents in Los Angeles start turning up dead. 21+. 8:30pm.
  • Neon Dreams: A Blacklight Burlesque Experience at Rise Rooftop – Hosted by Nikki Knockout, this evening of burlesque blends psychedelics and blacklight for an unforgettable performance. Expect a blend of puppetry, theater, dance and an original script that flips traditional burlesque on its head. $20 and up. 9pm.
  • Victor Sabattini DJ Set at Bauhaus – From making his name in Tulum by playing some of the best bars, beach clubs and jungle parties, to traveling the world, Victor Sabbattini draws from multicultural sounds and vibes with a nod to Latin America. He brings his infectious brand of music to Downtown. $10 and up. 10pm to 2am.

  • In Residence Opening Reception at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft | FREE – Join HCCC to celebrate the opening of In Residence: 16th Edition, an annual exhibition celebrating the Center’s Artist Residency Program. The show features works in fiber, clay, and wood, as well as raw and recycled materials, by 2022-2023 resident artists. 5:30pm to 7pm.
  • Artists on Site Series 4 Closing Reception with Pink Plankton at Asia Society Texas Center | FREE – Visit the studio and gallery spaces of four resident artists—Tatiana Escallón, Farima Fooladi, Naomi Kuo, and Alexis Pye—who have been working on-site through the late summer. Plus, enjoy eclectic music sets from Doc Guava, the Chevy Boys and Hasaan Olu. 6pm to 9pm.
  • Homemade Pasta Class at Yellow Rose Distilling – This hands-on class shows you how to make your own pasta from scratch.   • LL Cool J & the Roots, Big Boi & more in Concert at Toyota Center – Getting together for the Frequencies of Real Creative Energy Tour, LL Cool J teams up with the Roots, DJ Z-Trip and DJ Jazzy Jeff for a celebration of hip-hop.   • A Few Bad Apples Comedy Show at City Orchard | FREE – The Arts District cidery hosts an evening of comedy, featuring Clemente Javier and special guests. Expect laugh-out-loud explorations of life and society. 8pm.
  • Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Movie Screening at Levy Park | FREE – Pack a picnic, grab a blanket, and catch this adventure based on the popular role-playing game.   • Peter & Wendy: Family Dance Theatre at Miller Outdoor Theatre | FREE – With music from Two-Star Symphony, this retelling of the beloved Peter Pan story offers a showstopping performance through dance.
