  • Astros Season Opener at Minute Maid Park | Monday, April 6 – The Houston Astros kick off their 2015 season with an evening game against the Cleveland Indians. Arrive as early as 1pm for the annual Street Festival on Crawford for games, food and live music. Tickets start at $29.20, but you may find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s resale site. 6:10pm.
  • Sensory Friendly Day at the Children’s Museum of Houston | Monday, April 6 – Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and sensory processing differences are invited to experience the Children’s Museum of Houston in a safe and accepting environment. This exclusive event ensures that your experience at the museum isn’t too crowded, bright, loud or distracting. The Fresh Cafe will be closed, but outside food and drink is allowed. $5. 10am to 2pm.
  • KUUmunity Sake Dinner at KUU Restaurant | Monday, April 6 – Executive Chef Adison Lee and Sake specialist Martin Koleff have created a 10-course tasting menu with exclusive sake pairings that are not available elsewhere in the US. Limited seating available, call 713-461-1688 for reservations. $138. 6:30pm.
  • Beer Dinner at BRC Gastropub | Tuesday, April 7 – Treat yourself to a delicious menu of housemade potato chips, BLT sliders, candied orange glazed pork belly, yankee pot roast and coffee cake at BRC. Each course is expertly paired with brews from Firestone Walker Brewing Company. This dinner has limited availability, call 713-861-2233 for reservations. $55. 6:30pm.
  • One Wild Night at the Houston Public Library | Wednesday, April 8 | FREE – View illustrations from author Maurice Sendak during this Where the Wild Things Are themed party at HPL. Buxton will perform live and Pop Shop will be on hand to create DIYs like flower, ivy and confetti crowns for guests to take home. 6pm to 8pm.
  • Sugar Land Wine & Food Affair | Wednesday, April 8 to Sunday, April 12 – The five-day event located in historic Sugar Land is filled with cocktail, beer and wine tastings, food pairings and educational seminars. Check out the On The Rocks Bartenders Challenge to see which Houston mixologists’ concoction will reign supreme, take part in The Grand Tasting and sample food from notable chefs like former White House chef John Moeller and Taranta chef Jose Duarte, and attend the Sip and Stroll for samples, art and live music. Prices and locations vary.
  • PraCh In Concert at Asia Society Texas Center | Friday, April 10 – Cambodian rapper praCh visits Asia Society Texas Center to perform and give a lecture on his songs about the Killing Fields and the genocidal past of Cambodia. This is a standing room only event. $15; $10 Asia Society members. 7:30pm.
  • WorldFest Houston at AMC Studio 30 Cinema | Starts Friday, April 10 – This competitive international independent film festival takes place over ten days. The festival will screen 50 feature films and showcase over 100 short films at AMC Studio 30 Cinema. Screenings start at $15; passes start at $100. Times vary.
  • The Houston Art Car Parade Along Allen Parkway | Saturday, April 11 | FREE – Folks will line Allen Parkway for a front row seat at this year’s Houston Art Car Parade. More than 250 mobile works of art participate in the annual event put on by The Orange Show. 10am to 4pm; parade starts at 2pm.
  • Brenner’s on the Bayou Wine Fest | Saturday, April 11 – Sample vino from over 20 wineries at this outdoor affair along Buffalo Bayou. Chefs from Brenner’s on the Bayou, Brenner’s Steakhouse, Vic and Anthony’s and Grotto will prepare bites like pork belly sliders, seafood risotto and grilled cheese with tomato jam. Music by Midstream will set the mood with a variety of tunes from the 40s to the present. $65 in advance; $75 at the gate; $125 VIP. 3pm to 6pm.
  • Earth Day Houston 2015 at Discovery Green | Saturday, April 11 | FREE – Join Air Alliance Houston for a sustainable celebration featuring green exhibitors, water stations, a kids zone, recycling zone, beer garden, wine lounge, food trucks and live musical entertainment. Guests are encouraged to bike to the festival. 11am to 8pm.
  • Wine & Cheese Class at 13 Celsius | Saturday, April 11 – Join Houston Dairymaids for a cheese and wine 101 class exploring a variety of cheese and wine pairings along with tips on how to interpret wine labels, how to properly taste wine and a glimpse into the art of cheese making. $75 per person; call 713-529-8466 for reservations. 1pm to 3pm.
