Throw back a pint at a comfy gastropub serving up a vast selection of craft beers and filling eats at The Hay Merchant.

Located in the heart of Montrose at the intersection of Westheimer and Waugh Drive, this neighborhood favorite is beloved for its street side outdoor seating, more than 80 craft brews on tap, decadent bites, daily happy hour and knowledgeable staff.

Opened by James Beard Award-winner Chris Shepherd, folks flock to this roomy pub from the celebrity chef for his high-quality menu that puts a twist on classic bar food.

After you grab a table and beer that suits you from their curated list of suds, dig into savory, scratch-made meals including PB&J wings, chicken fried steak, tacos made with half a pig head (you read that right), and their “Cease and Desist Burger”—a tongue-in-cheek offering that a certain California-based burger chain took issue with.

And if you’re the type that’s into great happy hour deals (who isn’t?), rejoice. The bustling bar has a daily happy hour from 11am to noon and 3pm to 6:30pm that features 30 beers for $3 each as well as $5 beer and a shot combo.
