Located halfway between Brenham and Navasota, Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site is the location where 59 delegates arrived on March 2, 1836 to make a formal declaration of independence from Mexico.

Home of the Star of the Republic Museum, a replica of Independence Hall, and Barrington Plantation, Washington on the Brazos expands for Texas Independence Day Celebration with camp site reenactments, music and performance stages, and a chance to relive key moments in Texas history and life in the 1800s.

Life in the 1800s

To commemorate Texas Independence Day, several historical reenactors will take the stage as “delegates” of the convention, recounting the days that led to the formal declaration of independence from Mexico. Visitors can stick around after performances to meet the delegates and learn more about a pivotal moment in Texas history.

The Star of the Republic Museum will give Texas Independence Day Celebration guests a taste of life in the 1800s by showcasing knitting, tatting, weaving, and quilting alongside their new exhibit “Threads of History: Clothing in the Republic of Texas”.

Elsewhere on the historic site, visitors can tour through an 1836 Texas Army campsite, see how soldiers and their families lived, and witness musket and cannon firings.

Texas Independence Day Celebration will also feature a Texian Village of arts and crafts, food trucks, a Kids History Zone, and much more.
