With the return of the 67th annual Sylvan Beach Festival in La Porte, families in the coastal city and broader communities are preparing for a full day of family-friendly fun on the shores of Galveston Bay.
This historic fest—one of the longest running family traditions along the Texas Gulf Coast—gets rolling with the annual Sylvan Beach Day Parade through the streets of La Porte, before kicking off a day filled with carnival rides, a barbecue cook-off, arts and crafts, inflatables, a vendor market and headlining country music concerts.
One of La Porte’s signature events of the year, the annual beach-side bash makes for a great opportunity to have a family outing at one of the Houston area’s coastal destinations.

Family Fun & Games at Sylvan Beach Festival
For more than six decades, the Sylvan Beach Festival has been a fixture of the La Porte community, with many adults that attended as children now bringing their own kids and grandchildren along.
This year’s fest continues the on-the-water tradition with a slate of free kids’ activities that include over a dozen inflatables, obstacle courses, a rock wall, mechanical bull rides, gator shows, a video gaming trailer, and a chance to get up close with some of La Porte’s heavy vehicles and take in a water show by the Port of Houston Fire Department.
The sprawling carnival also offers views from atop the Ferris wheel, fun rides and an assortment of midway games with prizes (additional costs may apply; unlimited ride wristbands are available).
As the sun sets on Sylvan Beach, the party keeps rolling into the night thanks to a concert lineup of country music vets.
On the main stage, you can hear the high-energy tunes of locals in the Big Jordan Band, followed by the big gospel country sounds of Larry Fleet. Then, get moving to the rock-infused red dirt country of Stoney LaRue, before Texas-native Wade Bowen brings the festivities to a close.
