Embark from Houston to space and back when Houston’s ROCO performs Remarkable at The Church of St. John the Divine in River Oaks on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 5pm.
Following its free, world premiere debut performance at Miller Outdoor theatre the evening prior, ROCO will perform Remarkable inside the orchestra’s home venue in River Oaks.
Created and led by this season‘s composer-in-residence, Vietnamese-American composer Viet Cuong, the program will showcase the full 40-piece chamber orchestra in three new works plus a new twist on an out-of-this-world classic. The show will be hosted by guest emcee Fred Child of American Public Media’s Performance Today.
The audience will head to the stars with the ROCO commission “Constellations” by Viet Cuong, ROCO’s Season 20 Composer in Residence, spotlighting ROCO musicians as soloists in each movement.
Mark Buller‘s powerful ROCO commission “John the Revelator” pays tribute to The Church of St. John the Divine, and Gustav Holst‘s vivid tour of our solar system, “The Planets”, features in a new rescoring by Jim Stephenson, with original animation by James Templeton.
