See acclaimed photographer Robert Nickelsberg show his portfolio of Afghanistan photographs from his new book Afghanistan – A Distant War at a special presentation of Authors and Asia at Asia Society Texas Center on Tuesday, April 1, 2014.
Robert Nickelsberg has documented Afghanistan since 1988, when he accompanied a group of mujahedeen crossing the border from Pakistan. Known for capturing the brutality and suffering amid the stunning beauty of the region, Nickelsberg now presents an extraordinary portfolio of images, accompanied by incisive commentary, that showcase and help explain the country’s tragic history.
Nickelsberg’s images have appeared in publications and broadcasts that include Time, The New York Times, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, CNN and NBC, and have been exhibited at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the International Center of Photography and the New America Foundation in New York.
