In our Park Spotlight series, we take a closer look at Houston’s vast array of public recreational areas to shine a light on hidden and not so hidden gems. This week we’ll be spotlighting Elizabeth Glover Park. Join us as we take a trip through Houston, park by park.
Located in the heart of Midtown at the intersection of Elgin and Austin Street, the quaint Elizabeth Glover Park doubles as both a green space for the surrounding community as well as a play area for their dogs.
In an area known for its bustling bar and arts scene, the park offers pedestrians, dog-owners, and pups alike, a moment to collect their thoughts in what is typically a hectic area.
Dog-owners can take advantage of the fenced-in play area for rover (separate from the grassy areas), and take refuge from the sun, themselves, in the green space or shaded stage area.
The park even taps into the bustling, communal spirit of the area with a free-to-attend pet-friendly “Yappy Hour” featuring doggie playdates filled with treats, giveaways, contests, and prizes.
Before You Visit
The park is open to the public daily from 6am to 11pm with free, but limited parking available nearby.
Owners should note that dogs are required to be leashed when not in the designated play areas and all owners are required to pick up after their dogs.
The leash law is one of the tools that permit dogs and dog owners to visit a park without creating safety concerns, disturbing natural resources or diminishing a park visit for those who are not comfortable around dogs.
Glass containers, bottles, and alcoholic beverages are prohibited within the park.
