In our Park Spotlight series, we take a closer look at Houston’s vast array of public recreational areas to shine a light on hidden and not so hidden gems. This week we’ll be spotlighting the Armand Bayou Nature Center. Join us as we take a trip through Houston, park by park.
Located in the Clear Lake Area, the 2500-acre Armand Bayou Nature Center represents a beautiful piece of the Texas Gulf Coast.
The largest urban wilderness preserve in the United States and home to more than 370 species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, the Center is dedicated to preserving the wetlands prairie, forest, and marsh habitats surrounding Armand Bayou.
While exploring the vast nature preserve’s walking trails, visitors can learn all about the plant and animal inhabitants, bird-watch, or even view live animal displays of snakes, alligators, turtles, hawks, and bison.
Be sure to check out the Center’s Martyn Farm, which takes guests back in time to what it’s like living the farm life in late 1800’s Texas. If that’s not your thing, make a reservation to see the beauty of Armand Bayou on the “Bayou Ranger”, an electric pontoon boat, or on a guided canoe tour.
