Take a tasting tour of Houston’s premiere chefs, caterers, and bartenders as part of Black Restaurant Week at Nosh: Houston Culinary Showcase and Power of the Palate Bartender Competition at George R. Brown Convention Center on Wednesday, April 24, 2019.

As Black Restaurant Week gets underway in Houston, a grand tasting featuring many of the city’s premiere chefs, caterers, and bartenders is serving up one of the biggest event highlights for foodies, from the finicky to the fearless, at the Nosh: Houston Culinary Showcase.

Featuring full-flavored samples from spicy and savory, to sweet and subtle, Nosh: Houston Culinary Showcase meets the needs of every taste, along with vegetarian and vegan options.

In addition, guests have the option of witnessing the Power of the Palate Bartender Competition, where they’ll sip, savor, and vote for their favorite bartender to advance to the final round.

Nosh: Houston Culinary Showcase

Whether you’re in need of a cuisine for an upcoming event or just culinarily curious, everyone is invited to dive into the African diaspora with flavors that highlight African, African-American, and Caribbean cuisine at the Nosh: Houston Culinary Showcase. The grand tasting event is hosted by Magic 102.1’s Kandi Eastman and features a star-studded panel of competition judges including former NFL quarterback, Vince Young.

With no shortage of enticing samples on display, Nosh: Houston Culinary Showcase welcomes many featured chefs and caterers, including Craft Burger, Frenchy’s, and Cupcake Kitchen, among others.

Guests with an upgraded ticket can take part in a special tasting experience that features live cooking demonstrations presented by Verizon from Chef Yolonda Henry of Nuksy’s Fine Catering and Chef Cynthia Ferrell Sample of Bennie Ferrell Catering.

Advance tickets for Nosh: Houston Culinary Showcase begin at $50, with VIP passes that include the Power of the Palate Bartender Competition starting at $75. Admission for the Chef’s Table demonstrations are $150 and includes access to the Showcase and Bartender Competition.

Power of the Palate Bartender Competition

Presented by Jack Daniels Gentleman Jack, the Power of the Palate Bartender Competition features some of Houston’s best black bartenders that shake, stir, and pour exciting craft cocktails with the freshest ingredients from local farms.

Guests at Power of the Palate will get to taste each bartender’s concoctions and vote for their favorites to advance to the final round.

Admission for Power of the Palate requires a VIP ticket that starts at $75 in advance, $80 at the door, and also includes access to Nosh: Houston Culinary Showcase.

About Black Restaurant Week: Houston

In its fourth and largest year in Houston, Black Restaurant Week will partner with over 30 black-owned restaurants and eateries to offer delectable prix fixe menus, starting at $15. Restaurants include Indigo from the James Beard-nominated Chef Jonathan Rhodes, Lucille’s by Chef Chris Williams, and many hidden gems across the city like Ate Kitchen.

Throughout the two weeks of dining, Black Restaurant Week also offers a series of culinary events aimed to expand awareness and support for black culinary professionals, including a business panel on Tuesday, April 16; a pop-up dinner with Chef Kenneth Temple on Friday, April 19; the NOSH Culinary Showcase and Power of the Palate Bartending Competition on Wednesday, April 24; and Soundbites: Food Truck Festival on Saturday, April 27.
