Our seasonal My Top 5 series returns for the fall, highlighting Houstonians who actively shape the culture of the city and make an impact on Houston’s character. In turn, these individuals share the spotlight and reveal their own favorite things to do in Houston—when they’re not hard at work.
This week, we’re very pleased to showcase Faith Cisneros, founder of Houston’s Shop Local Market and owner of multiple local retail locations, who shares her very food-forward and -focused list of H-Town faves.
My Top 5 Things to Do in Houston
by Faith Cisneros
- Niko Niko’s in Montrose – I frequent Niko Nikko’s at least once a week, and my go-to meal is the spinach and feta pita with a side of potatoes—always hits the spot! I’m also obsessed with their sour cherry yogurt gelato, which is an absolute must-try!
- Second Slice Sandwich Shop at the Ironworks in the East End – As I’m always on the go, Second Slice is my reliable spot for a quick, fresh sandwich that never disappoints. They use the freshest ingredients and locally made bread, which makes every bite amazing!
- Bobcat Teddys on White Oak in the Heights – Since moving to the Heights, Bobcat Teddys has become my after-work spot for a couple of local craft beers. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a long day.
- Reggae Hut on Alameda Road – For over 25 years, Reggae Hut has been my go-to spot for something spicy. Their famous jerk chicken with cabbage, peas, and rice is always satisfying, and I can’t leave without an order of hot plantains!
- Oishii Japanese Restaurant in Greenway / Upper Kirby – When I need a sushi fix, Oishii is my top choice with its excellent happy hour menu. I love that the menu isn’t overly complicated, and everything is super fresh and delicious.
