Catch some of the city’s most exciting upcoming performances, happening all month long, with our roundup of live theater and performing arts productions in August 2025.
Not so long ago, August was a sleepy arts month in Houston, as if arts organizations were taking a collective nap before the new season kicked off in September. Not so much anymore. Our city really is a 12-months arts extravaganza.
This month sees the continuation of an original story co-produced by Garden Theatre and Holocaust Museum Houston, the lively expressions of Mariachi ringing through the Wortham Center, new and much-loved works by NobleMotion Dance and Dance Source Houston’s 35th iteration of its popular Mind the Gap series.
I want to shout out the team putting together this year’s Night Court performance. Lawyers from across Houston hit the stage to raise funds to support organizations that make free legal services accessible to everyone. It’s important work, and a fun showcase for talent in unexpected places.
We’ve also got a stunning and moving national tour sailing into Hobby Center, a gorgeously scored musical from Sankofa Collective and a play about the transformative power of acting.
Plus, one of my favorite things is back—Houston Theater Week lets you grab great deals on shows in the 2025-2026 performing arts season. Plays, musicals, special events, ballets, orchestra concerts, jazz and more are available. This year, there’s also a brand-new “Ask V” AI feature, where you can input your interests and get a list of custom-tailored shows based on your answers.
