Every week we highlight enterprising and interesting Houstonians in “My Top 5,” where they share their own very favorite things to do in H-Town. This week we hear from author, speaker and founder of Texas Black Expo Jerome Love, who reveals his Houston must-dos.
My Top 5 Things to Do in Houston
by Jerome Love
- Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo – The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a great annual event and staple in Houston that’s fun for the whole family. I have four children, and each one of them has something they love about being there. It’s also a great learning opportunity for them and for me. With animals, games, music, and food, you can’t go wrong at the Rodeo.
- The Breakfast Klub – I enjoy eating at the Breakfast Klub for a number of reasons. As many Houstonians already know, the food is absolutely outstanding, so that’s no surprise, but what I also like is the sense of community every time I eat there. People from all backgrounds come together to enjoy a great time together, and that’s what living in Houston is all about.
- Reflections of Christ’s Kingdom – Reflections of Christ’s Kingdom is a great and active spiritual community, and my family and I enjoy being part of such a wonderful congregation. Whether we’re going to Sunday service, helping others through volunteer efforts or spreading messages of love, hope and joy in the community, this church is definitely a staple in my life, and all are welcomed to visit.
- House of Blues Houston – I love music and a lot of big names come through the House of Blues Houston. What I like most is that you can discover some little-known artists as well. The intimate setting makes for a fun date night with my wife.
- The Ensemble Theatre – Some of the best theatrical productions I’ve had the pleasure of attending in Houston took place at The Ensemble Theatre. The plays are not only extremely entertaining, but they’re often very educational, with many productions taking a modern twist to a classic story steeped in history.
