Top Performing Arts Openings This Week: June 10 to 16, 2024

  • Texas Music Festival: Transformations at Dudley Recital Hall | Tuesday, June 11 – Faculty share the stage with Orchestra Fellows at Rice University in the music of Beethoven, and Faure’s Piano Quintet No. 1. $20. 7:30pm.
  • Open Dance Project presents Red Landscape: Georgia O’Keeffe in Texas 1912-1918 at Moody Center for the Arts | Wednesday June 12 to Saturday, June 15 | FREE – This three-dimensional, multi-sensory dance production is inspired by the artist’s personal letters, journals, interviews, sketches, photographs, and works of art. A pre-show discussion takes place before select performances. Times vary.
  • The Star-Spangled Girl at Unity Brenham | Thursday, June 13 to Sunday, June 30 – The Brenham theater presents Neil Simon’s comedy about a pair of guys using their apartment to publish a subversive magazine, and what happens when a girl with a sparkling personality moves in down the hall. $30; $15 for students. Showtimes vary.
  • Juneteenth: A Musical Journey Through Eras at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Friday, June 14 & Saturday, June 15 | FREE – This special two-night concert series offers a poignant exploration of Black music’s evolution—and the reflections and impacts of history. Each night features different focuses, from the R&B, gospel and blues of 1960 to 1980, to the rise of hip-hop and beyond from 1980 to 2000. 8pm.
  • Houston Pride Band: Winds of Summer, Rhythms of the Sea at MATCH | Saturday, June 15 – Come to Midtown for this musical celebration of leisure, power, and tranquility. The concert also features the world premiere performance of Storm Surge by composer JaRod Hall. $15. 8pm.
  • Houston Symphony presents The Music of ABBA at Hobby Center | Saturday, June 15 & Sunday, June 16 – Hear the pop sensation like you’ve never heard them before. Dance, jive, and “have the time of your life” as world-renowned a cappella sensation Rajaton joins the orchestra for all your favorite ABBA hits: “Mamma Mia,” “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme,” “Dancing Queen” and more. $65 and up. Times vary.
  • Betrayal at Rec Room Arts | Saturday, June 15 | Ongoing – Harold Pinter’s play about a love triangle unfolds backwards. We meet the lovers at the end of their illicit affair, and watch it return to its origin, exploring power dynamics, love and friendship. This production runs through Saturday, July 6. $40; Wednesday shows are $5. 7:30pm.
  • Texas Music Festival: Festival Orchestra II at Moores Opera House | Saturday, June 15 – Carl St. Clair conducts an evening of Ravel and Strauss. The concert includes Daphnis and Chloe Suite No. 2 and Ein Heldenleben. $30. 7:30pm.
