Get revved up at the 2014 Houston Art Car Parade

Dive into to Houston at its wackiest at the can’t-miss 27th annual Houston Art Car Parade, traveling down on Saturday, May 10, 2014.

Delight to more than 300 stunning cars, bikes, skaters and motorized critters as the travel down Allen Parkway. With 300,000 spectators, it’s the largest parade of its kind in the world. The parade itself starts at 2pm and lasts about two hours. But there’s a full half day of parties leading up to it.

Pre-Parade Festivities at the Houston Art Car Parade 

The Starting Line Party gets going at 10am, when the public is invited to mingle with parade participants and art car creators. Expect informal music, nutty costumes and friendly spirits.

At 11am, live music begins on the Free Press Houston stage, featuring musicians The Wandering Bufaleros and Portal Walker.

There’s also a designated Kids Zone at Sam Houston Park, where families with little ones can watch the parade and start their own art projects.

The 27th Annual Houston Art Car Parade will start at Allen Parkway and Crosby St, heading east to Bagby. There it will make a loop around the Heritage Society and Sam Houston Park, and then head back down Allen Parkway, westbound to Waugh Drive.

As usual with Downtown Houston parades, people of every stripe are welcome, but their dogs will need to stay home.

Food and drink vendors will be situated along the route. Be sure to bring sunscreen, bottled water, hats and your I.D. if you plan to buy drinks.
