Take in a summer evening program of celebrating the arts at the fifth annual Julydoscope at Discovery Green on the evening of Saturday, July 18, 2015.

Presented by Houston Cinema Arts Society and Dance Source Houston, Julydoscope combines dance performances with a screening of rapper Nasir “Nas” Jones’ acclaimed 2014 film Shake the Dust. As a special treat, Houston rapper and Nas’ longtime friend Bun B will be on hand to introduce the film following the dance performances.

The dance performances will begin at 7pm, featuring high-energy multi-dance companies including Nritya Dance, City Dance and MET Dance. DJ Dizzle of BOOM92 FM, Houston’s only classic hip-hop radio station, will serve as the master of ceremonies.

Julydoscope also coincides with Flea by Night, which will be happening on southeast corner of Discovery Green near The Grove restaurant. The free monthly, one-of-a-kind flea market features an array of artful kitsch, vintage items, mid-century modern furniture, recycled and repurposed items and collectibles.

About Shake the Dust

From executive producer Nas, who provides original music for the film, and journalist-turned-filmmaker Adam Sjöberg, Shake the Dust chronicles the influence of breakdancing and hip-hop, exploring how they strike a resonant chord in slums, favelas and ghettos around the world and far beyond. Showcasing some of the most jaw-dropping breakdancing moves ever committed to film, the feature documentary shot in Colombia, Cambodia, Uganda and Yemen is an inspiring tribute to the uplifting power of music and movement.
