- College Football: Houston Cougars vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders at NRG Stadium | Saturday, September 4 – These Texas teams get a supersized kickoff to the college football season when they take the field at the cavernous NRG Stadium. - Bayou Bucket 5K & 10K at Rice University | Sunday, September 5 – Pick a side—blue for Rice, red for University of Houston—and take to the Rice University running trail to help your team win this annual 5K and 10K event. Now in its third year, the series stands tied at 1–1. Participation also includes a ticket to the Bayou Bucket Classic on Saturday, September 11. Registration is $45 for the 5K; $55 for the 10K; $20 for the Kids K. 7:30am.
- Houston Dash vs. Chicago Red Stars at BBVA Stadium | Friday, September 10 – H-Town hosts ex-Dash striker Kealia Watt and the Red Stars in a rematch of the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup Final. - Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels at Minute Maid Park | Friday, September 10 to Sunday, September 12 – Led by the league leader in home runs, Shohei Ohtani, the Angels stop by Houston for a three-game series. - Houston Dynamo FC vs. Austin FC at BBVA Stadium | Saturday, September 11 – Houston hosts one of MLS’ newcomers, Austin FC, who stand in the way of the Dynamo’s last chance at the playoffs. - College Football: Rice Owls vs. Houston Cougars at Rice Stadium | Saturday, September 11 – The 40th Bayou Bucket Classic brings the Rice Owls and Houston Cougars together again for another edition of this intra-city rivalry. - Houston Texans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars at NRG Stadium | Sunday, September 12 – The Texans open the season at home against a division rival that includes No. 1 draft pick Trevor Lawrence and famed college coach Urban Meyer, who begins his NFL career as a head coach. - Toughest 10K at Kemah Boardwalk | Sunday, September 19 – Get the blood pumping in the morning at this daunting 10K that sends runners from the Kemah Boardwalk across the massive Seabrook-Kemah Bridge and back again. Registration is $60 until Tuesday, September 14; $65 until Race Day; $75 day of the race. 7am.
- Houston Texans vs. Carolina Panthers at NRG Stadium | Thursday, September 23 – In their only Thursday night primetime game of the season, the Texans will host new quarterback Sam Darnold and the Carolina Panthers. Tickets range from $34 to over $250, but you may find better, cheaper, or hard-to-get seat using the TicketNetwork online marketplace. 7:20pm.
- Badges & Bases 5K, 10K & Kids Run at Minute Maid Park | Saturday, September 25 – Benefiting the Astros Foundation and the Houston Police Foundation, this run event sends participants north of the stadium and loops them back to finish inside the ballpark, with a photo op at home plate. Registration is $30 for the 5K; $40 for the 10K; $15 for the Kids run. 7:15am.
- College Football: Houston Cougars vs. Navy Midshipmen at TDECU Stadium | Saturday, September 25 – The Coogs get a shot at a nationally ranked team on their home turf while celebrating military and first responders. - Houston Astros vs. Tampa Bay Rays at Minute Maid Park | Tuesday, September 28 to Thursday, September 30 – In their second-to-last series of the season, the Astros host Tampa Bay in a three-game showdown that recalls the 2020 ALCS matchup.
