  • Toddler Time at Helen Hall Library | Monday, September 18 | FREE – Bring your toddler to Helen Hall Library in League City for songs, rhymes, and a story. For ages walking to 3. 10:15am to 10:45am.
  • Hispanic Heritage Month at Children’s Museum Houston | Tuesday, September 19 to Sunday, September 24 – All week long, the Museum District headquarters for imagination celebrates the start of Hispanic Heritage Month with a slate of activities and crafts where kiddos can make a banner of Spanish-speaking countries, design their own mirror in the Mexican tin art style of hojalata, make Mexican paper flowers and more. $17 for ages 1 and up. 10am to 6pm.
  • Sugar Land Space Cowboys vs. El Paso Chihuahuas at Constellation Field | Tuesday, September 19 to Sunday, September 24 – Cheer for the Space Cowboys in the final series of the season against the Chihuahuas. Fans can take in the weekend with a special Día de los Muertos jersey giveaway on Friday and a Jeremy Peña bobblehead giveaway on Saturday. $12 and up. Times vary.
  • Skateboard Art Show at Hardy & Nance Studios | Friday, September 22 | FREE – Check out board designs by local Houston artists at this showcase of skateboarding at the near Downtown gallery. It’s a chance to see how the sport and art meld together in creative harmony. 7pm to 11pm.
  • Shinyribs in Concert at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Friday, September 22 | FREE – The Austin-based band, led by Kevin Russell, comes to Houston, performing its signature blend of Texas Blues, New Orleans R&B funk, horn-driven Memphis Soul, country twang, border music, big band swing, and roots-rock. Look for selections from their latest record, Transit Damage and more. 8pm.
  • Galveston Island Shrimp Festival in Downtown Galveston | Friday, September 22 & Saturday, September 23 – The Galveston Island Shrimp Festival features some of the best shrimp gumbo the Gulf Coast has to offer and includes a seafood cook-off, gumbo tasting, L’il Shrimps Parade, live music, a children’s area, and a Strand merchant walkabout. Free to visit the festival; $13 for gumbo stroll tickets. Prices vary for other events. Times vary.
  • Houston Astros vs. Kansas City Royals at Minute Maid Park | Friday, September 22 to Sunday, September 24 – Kansas City rolls through for the last homestand of the regular season. Marking Hispanic Heritage Weekend, fans can expect giveaways like a Jose Abreu Los Astros jersey on Friday and a sugar skull bobblehead on Saturday. $26 and up. Times vary.
  • Take Me Outdoors Houston at Discovery Green | Saturday, September 23 | FREE – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department hosts this bilingual event celebrating the Great Outdoors with animal ambassadors, hands-on activities, resources and more. 9am to 2pm.
  • City of Sugar Land’s Fall Fest at Sugar Land Town Square | Saturday, September 23 | FREE – Celebrate the beginning of fall with live music, food and beverages, carnival games, a market, and more at Sugar Land’s signature fall festival. 10am to 3pm.
  • Bat Fest at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center | Saturday, September 23 | FREE – Learn more about bats and why they are a vital part of our ecosystem at this festival where the whole family can enjoy fun bat-themed activities and crafts, story times, food trucks, and more. 10am to 2pm.
  • GroovFest at Tomball Depot | Saturday, September 23 | FREE – Head back in time at this award-winning festival celebrating the groovy sixties. Explore the VW show from the Funkengruven Vintage Volkswagen Club, shop vendors, enjoy kids’ activities, have some far out food, and listen to classic tunes of yesteryear from The Fab 5. 11am to 6pm.
  • 27th Houston Turkish Festival at the Water Works at Buffalo Bayou | Saturday, September 23 & Sunday, September 24 – Take part in a two-day celebration of Turkish culture at Buffalo Bayou Park, where guests can dive into delicious foods like simit sandwiches and falafel wraps, shop a local bazaar of art and unique finds, enjoy folk dancing and music performances, and more. $10 in advance; free for ages 12 and under. Saturday 11am to 9pm; Sunday 11 to 8pm.
  • Festival de la Salsa at Discovery Green | Sunday, September 24 – The Downtown park space hosts a full day of salsa celebration, infused with Latin culture. Enjoy live music, folklorico and cultural performances, food vendors and more during an event that promotes unity and cultural diversity. $10 in advance; free for ages 12 and under. 1pm to 10pm.
  • 60th Annual Houston Slavic Heritage Festival at Northside Columbus Hall | Sunday, September 24 – The 60th Annual Houston Slavic Heritage Festival will include live music, dance performances, vendors, Slavic foods, a Polka contest, a kolache-eating contest, and more near Independence Heights. $5; free for ages 5 and under. Noon to 6pm.
  • Main Street Theater for Youth presents Carmela Full of Wishes at MATCH | Sunday, September 24 | Ongoing – This family-friendly production explores hope in the migrant community through the touching tale of Carmela, who has a very special wish to help keep her family together. This production runs through Saturday, October 21. $20 and up. 12:30pm and 3:30pm.
