  • Sensory Friendly Day at Children’s Museum Houston | Monday, October 16 – Children with autism spectrum disorder, sensory processing disorder, and various learning differences, and their families are invited to experience the Museum with dimmed lights, limited extra sounds, and no distracting motions. $8 per person. 10am to 2pm.
  • Boogie Bash: Animal Action at the Woodlands Children’s Museum | Tuesday, October 17 – Children can engage in fun fingerplays and creative movement activities celebrating the animal kingdom and how different creatures move at the Woodlands Children’s Museum. $8 per person. 11am.
  • International Sawfish Day at Downtown Aquarium | Tuesday, October 17 – Learn about Sawfish and conservation efforts with arts and crafts, trivia, prizes, sawfish swag, and more at the Downtown Aquarium. $13.99 and up. 11am.
  • Walk with Amal at Multiple Locations | Thursday, October 19 | FREE – Join others as you walk through three areas of Houston with Amal, a 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee. Part of an 11,000-mile journey across the United States and Mexico, Walk with Amal raises awareness about the Syrian refugee crisis and the struggles of a broader population of global refugees. Locations include Downtown Houston at 1pm; Burnett Bayland Park in Gulfton at 3:30pm; and Project Row Houses in Third Ward at 6:30pm.
  • Storytime in the Garden at Houston Botanic Garden | Friday, October 20 | FREE – Park Place Regional Library invites children and their caregivers for a 30-minute storytime at the South Houston garden. Free admission are available to the first 50 registrants. 10:30am to 11am.
  • Houston Symphony presents Hocus Pocus Pops at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | Friday, October 20 – It’s all just a bunch of Hocus Pocus, also known as a night of seasonal tunes to make you smile. Bring the kiddos in costume as the Houston Symphony presents its annual Halloween-themed concert in the Woodlands. Free on the lawn and mezzanine; $25 for orchestra seating. 7:30pm.
  • Run in the Park in Hermann Park | Saturday, October 21 – From a Kids K route to 10K lengths, this annual run or walk helps support the crucial efforts to maintain Hermann Park. All ages and abilities are welcome to explore the park and enjoy shaded trails. Stick around for a post-run party with food, drinks, music and more. Advance registration is $40 for the 5K and 10K; $20 for the Kids K. 8am.
  • George Ranch Frontier Days Festival at George Ranch Historical Park | Saturday, October 21 – Get a lesson in the old days by bringing the whole family to discover more than 150 years of Texas history at the George Ranch Frontier Days Festival. Enjoy hands-on activities, battle re-enactments, live entertainment, first-person costumed interpreters, historic home tours, games, and more. $15 for ages 13 and up; $10 for ages 4 to 12; free for ages 3 and under. 9am to 5pm.
  • 2023 KBR Kids Day at Tony Marron Park in Second Ward | Saturday, October 21 | FREE – Buffalo Bayou Partnership’s annual family festival returns to the Second Ward park, filled with local entertainment, hands-on activities, live performers, face painters and much more. Costumes are encouraged. 11am to 3pm.
  • Dia de los Muertos Celebration at Sugar Land Town Square | Saturday, October 21 | FREE – Take in traditional mariachi and ballet folklórico performances, Aztec dancers, Hispanic cuisine and more at this annual festival in Sugar Land for the whole family. Noon to 5pm.
  • Houston Filipino Street Festival at Constellation Field | Saturday, October 21 – Celebrate the Philippines and local Filipino culture at this family-friendly festival in Sugar Land that presents traditions, live performances and street food in an embrace of cultural diversity. $17 and up; free for ages 7 and under. Noon to 7pm.
  • Fall Festival Pumpkin Patch at Redemption Square | Saturday, October 21 | FREE – Pick the perfect gourd and enjoy live music, hay rides, entertainment for kids, photo ops and more in Northeast Houston. Free, but RSVP required. 3pm to 8pm.
  • Monster Jam at NRG Stadium | Saturday, October 21 – Watch as 12,000-pound monster trucks like Grave Digger and El Toro Loco soar, flip and crash around NRG Stadium when the touring spectacle arrives again in Houston. $20 and up. 6:30pm.
  • ARToberFest in Downtown Galveston | Saturday, October 21 & Sunday, October 22 – The Grand 1894 Opera House presents the annual two-day fine arts festival in Galveston’s historic downtown cultural arts district. The event showcases the works of more than 120 of the finest artists. On top of that, festival goers can meet with exhibiting artists, hear live music, see artist demonstrations, and enjoy food and entertainment in the historic setting. $5. Saturday 10am to 6pm; Sunday 10am to 5pm.
  • Oktober on the Boulevard 2023 at Church of St. John the Divine | Sunday, October 22 | FREE – Celebrate fall at this family festival that includes pumpkin decorating and German music, along with food, beer and wine tastings, performances by Houston Saengerbund’s Gemischter Chor, a petting zoo and more. 4pm to 7pm.
