Celebrate the Year of the Pig at the 2019 Lunar New Year Festival

Experience the free, family-friendly 2019 Lunar New Year Festival, filled with Asian food, music, and more at the Chinese Community Center on Saturday, February 9, 2019.

As the Chinese Lunar Calendar rolls into another year, the Chinese Community Center welcomes all to a free celebration of the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays at the 2019 Lunar New Year Festival.

Since 2003, the Chinese Community Center has celebrated the Lunar New Year with a festival featuring musical and dance performances, vendors offering art, games, food, prizes, activities for children, and more.

This free cultural event makes for the perfect chance to welcome the Year of the Pig in a time-honored way.

Performances

Reveling in the beauty of Houston’s diversity, the Lunar New Year Festival hosts a full day of performances ranging from traditional Chinese, Indian, Polynesian, and Mexican music and dance, as well as martial arts demonstrations.

Traditional performances of the ever-popular lion and dragon dances will also be featured on the main stage throughout the day.

Culture Crafts Corner

A great opportunity to bring home a keepsake, the Lunar New Year Festival welcomes families and children to the Culture Crafts Corner to try their hands at culturally relevant crafts and activities like calligraphy and origami.

Outdoor Marketplace

Outside, the Lunar New Year Festival is alive with rows of vendors offering Asian art, crafts, and giveaways.

If you’re feeling a little hungry, hop over to one of the food trucks on hand or explore the outdoor marketplace and find various Asian cuisines, like steamed barbecue pork buns, tapioca drinks, Taiwanese sausage, and more.
