In honor of Asian Heritage Month, Houston’s Chinese Community Center will be hosting a series of tours and workshops that celebrate and explore the city’s Asian culture and experiences.

Houstonians of all backgrounds are invited to explore some of Houston’s hidden gems on the Asian Heritage Bus Tours and learn about aspects of daily culture at Discovery Workshops.

Asian Heritage Bus Tours

Explore the rich cultural offerings and ethnic foods of Southwest Houston on a curated, four and a half-hour guided tour that explores Bellaire, Harwin, and Hillcroft boulevards.

Riders will visit a rich assortment of Asian cultural, dining and shopping destinations that include the following places.

  • Notable Religious Sites – Visit the Jade Buddha Temple and Teo-Chew Temple.
  • Local Restaurants, Bakeries and Eateries – Explore and sample food from a selection that runs the gamut of Asian cuisines.
  • Asian Grocery Stores – Learn to browse and shop at Asian markets including H-Mart Korean Supermarket.
  • Cultural Locations – Explore noteworthy spots including Ten Yen Tea & Herbs tea house and International Shaolin Wushu (Kungfu) Center;
  • Unique Shopping – Visit specialty and craft shops like Mulan Asian Market.

All bus tours include a family-style lunch at a local favorite restaurant in Chinatown with a hand-picked menu consisting of popular, mouth-watering dishes.

Asian Heritage Cultural Discovery Workshops

Learn about traditional and contemporary Asian art forms through hands-on cultural discovery workshops instructed by Chinese Community Center’s cultural experts.

The workshops offered with this four-hour experience include:

  • Chinese Calligraphy – Learn an ancient art form with ink brush.
  • Papercutting – Practice this art form that turns regular paper into beautiful and intricate art designs and décor.
  • Origami – Learn paperfolding and create intricate designs of animals, plants, and other items from nature.
  • Tai-chi – Try your skills at the Chinese martial art that both serves as self-defense and provides great health benefits.
  • Tea Ceremony Demonstration – Discover the prominence of tea in Asian culture and lifestyle and enjoy a tasting of teas.

All workshop participants will enjoy a family-style shared lunch at one of the Chinese Community Center’s favorite restaurants in Chinatown, featuring a hand-picked menu of delicious and mouth-watering dishes.
