Houston Temple Vigil at the Orange Show World Headquarters

Thursday, October 3, 2024 | 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Free

The Orange Show World Headquarters opens its campus every Thursday evening for a weekly vigil at the temporary art installation, the Houston Temple, created by California sculptor and Orange Show artist-in-residence David Best.

Best is known for the immense temples he creates from elaborately pattered salvaged wood. Constructed all over the globe, these monumental public art projects are non-denominational sacred spaces that allow communities to express their deepest emotions: love, grief, joy, sorrow, celebration, and remembrance.

Guests of all ages are invited to visit the temple, write a note or memory onto one of the wood planks, and insert it into the structure.

The weekly vigil will happen through Halloween Day, Thursday, October 31, 2024. The temple itself will be on display until Thursday, November 9, 2024 when it will be burned in a public ceremony, releasing trauma in a spectacular and cathartic blaze.

Visitors will also have access to Paul Kittelson’s Wind Field exhibition, also on display on the  campus grounds.
