Dig into live book events, the latest appearances by authors, and more with our roundup of book and literary events happening in Houston in February 2025.

From light to serious and everything in between, book and author events this month run the gamut of ideas. 

There’s a Palestinian poetry reading and a talk series on the history of Israel. A rom com writer comes to town, and so does a TikTok sensation

And on Monday, February 24, one of my favorite organizations, The Progressive Forum, welcomes an author to speak about a timely topic

Blue Willow Bookshop: Bookworm 2025 at Garcia Middle School | Saturday, February 1 | FREE with RSVP – The free, family-friendly and fully bilingual event celebrates emerging readers and those who create books for them with a day of author and illustrator panels, readings, signings and more. RSVP required. 9am.

Tessa Bailey at Books-A-Million | Sunday, February 2 – The Katy bookstore hosts the wildly popular rom-com author, who will discuss her work. Fans can also be among the first to purchase her latest novel, Dream Girl Drama. $18.99 admission includes a copy of the book. 3pm.

The 30th Bunny & Leo Horvitz Scholar-in-Residence Program with Dr. David Ilan at the Evelyn R. Rubenstein Jewish Community Center | Sunday, February 2 to Thursday, February 20 | Most FREE with RSVP – This series explores the story of ancient Israel told through the lens of archaeology. Participants will learn about the lives of ancient Israelis, the history behind Biblical stories and how they relate to today’s Middle East. RSVP is required for all programs. Dates and times vary.

Zine Falastini presents Palestinian Poetry Reading at Basket Books & Art | Thursday, February 6 | FREE – The Montrose shop hosts this evening of Palestinian poetry readings with Ibrahim Badshah and Dr. Fady Joudah. The event is presented with support from Houston Jewish Voice for Peace and Palestinian Youth Movement. 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

Grief Writing Workshop with Renée Watson at Kindred Stories | Tuesday, February 11 | FREE with RSVP – The #1 New York Times bestselling author and writer of All The Blues In the Sky leads this workshop for all levels. Watson’s novel explores what happens when 13-year-old Sage’s best friend dies on her birthday. Book available for $17.99. 7pm.

Joshua Moehling at Murder by the Book | Wednesday, February 12 – The critically acclaimed author of the Ben Packard series and a two-time Lammy award nominee for Best LGBTQ+ Mystery Thriller discusses his latest novel, A Long Time Gone. He’s in conversation with Houston writer Ashley Winstead, whose new novel, This Book Will Bury Me will be available for pre-order at the event. Attendance is free but those wishing to have books signed must purchase them from the bookstore. 6:30pm.

The Hebridian Baker at Blue Willow Bookshop | Tuesday, February 18Coinneach MacLeon, the TikTok sensation and author, comes to Houston to share insights about The Hebridean Baker: The Scottish Cookbook and sign his books. $31 tickets include a copy of the book. 7pm.

Savannah Guthrie at the British International School | Thursday, February 20The Today Show co-host and author discusses her new book, Mostly What God Does Is Love You. The book showcases her reflections on her Christian faith and how to seek God’s love in the everyday. $25 admission includes a copy of the book. 7pm.

Texas Booksellers Association presents the 2025 Texas Book Show at Winter Street Studios | Saturday, February 22 & Sunday, February 23 – Shop a variety of book vendors and learn more about book collecting and Houston’s book scene. Admission TBD. Times vary.

The Progressive Forum presents Chris Hayes at Congregation Emanu-El | Monday, February 24 – The acclaimed broadcast journalist discusses his upcoming book, The Sirens’ Call: How Attention Became the World’s Most Endangered Resource. I recently heard Hayes in conversation with podcaster and writer Ezra Klein, talking about this book and this subject. It was an incredible discussion and I expect his Houston appearance to be the same. $49 and up. 7:30pm.

Crystal R. Sanders at Brazos Bookstore | Wednesday, February 26 | FREE Sanders discusses her new book, A Forgotten Migration, which tells the little-known story of “segregation scholarships” awarded by states in the American South to Black students seeking graduate education in the pre–Brown v. Board of Education era. The event is free, but books to have signed by the author must be bought from the bookstore. 6:30pm.
