Dig into live book events, the latest appearances by authors, and more with our roundup of book and literary events happening in Houston in April 2026.
I love April! We have a lot of family birthdays this month, including mine. And one of my favorite gifts—to give and receive—is books.
And April is Indie Bookstore Month, an incredible opportunity to celebrate these small, carefully curated shops all over our city, specializing in everything from authors of color, crime and mystery, literary fiction, children’s books and so much more.
Step into any one of these and you’ll meet people who love books, and love sharing their current favorites with you. On Indie Bookstore Day, they’re hosting a variety of events and deals. Check their websites for what’s available, but don’t forget to pick up your Houston Bookstore Crawl passport to take with you when you visit these special shops.
Other bookstore happenings this month include a Black Queer Book Fair, the release party for a new romantasy novel, Teen Bookcon, a poetry reading, poetry open mic night, and more options for bookworms.
Go read books, Houston!
