  • 2023 ALCS: Official Houston Astros Watch Party at Minute Maid Park | Friday, October 20 – Catch the final road game in Arlington, broadcast live from within Minute Maid on El Grande, the giant screen in center field. Plus, tour the concourse to enjoy other festivities and celebrate the ‘Stros with other diehards. You must claim a voucher to attend, available for $2. 2pm.
  • An Evening with Bill Nye at Jones Hall | Friday, October 20 – The lifelong science communicator comes to Downtown, guiding everyone through the most likely global challenges of magnitude, and how we can survive, mitigate and prevent them. $39 and up. 7:30pm.
  • Jalen Ngonda in Concert at Axelrad | Friday, October 20 | FREE – One of the most captivating performers on today’s soul scene, Jalen Ngonda headlines a night at the neon garden in Midtown. The acclaimed artist has performed at New York City’s Summer Stage Festival, Picktathon, Newport Folk Festival, opened for Laura Mvula and Lauryn Hill at the Montreal Jazz Festival and sold-out houses on his own in Germany, the UK and Switzerland. 8pm.
  • American Mariachi at Alley Theatre | Friday, October 20 to Sunday, October 22 | Final Weekend – In this play about dreaming big, it’s the 1970s, and Lucha wants to form a mariachi band. But girls don’t do that. Or can they? This heartwarming clash of cultures showcases what it means to embrace all of your heritage. $35 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • 2023 KBR Kids Day at Tony Marron Park in Second Ward | Saturday, October 21 | FREE – This family-friendly day along the bayou features hands-on nature activities, a rock-climbing wall, birds of prey exhibits, balloon artists, a Halloween costume parade and much more. Costumes are encouraged. 11am to 3pm.

  • Houston Filipino Street Festival at Constellation Field | Saturday, October 21 – Celebrate the Philippines and local Filipino culture at this family-friendly festival in Sugar Land that presents traditions, live performances and street food in an embrace of cultural diversity. $17 and up; free for ages 7 and under. Noon to 7pm.
  • Football: UH Cougars vs. Texas Longhorns at TDECU Stadium | Saturday, October 21 – It’s a battle for the Lone Star State as the Longhorns come down to TDECU and take on the Coogs at home on Heroes Night, which honors military and first responders. $125 and up. 3pm.
  • Asia to the World at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Saturday, October 21 | FREE – This journey of cross-cultural dance transports you to Asia, capturing the continent’s diverse cultures and styles. Expect to see traditional and contemporary performances, colorful costumes and myriad music styles. 7:30pm.
  • Sorry Papi Halloween Tour: The All Girl Party at Bayou Music Center | Saturday, October 21 – The Sorry Papi tour brings Halloween to Downtown for an all-women reggaeton bash with photo ops, cocktails, female DJs, and more. $35. 10pm.
  • Petco Love Mega-Adoption Event at George R. Brown Convention Center | Saturday, October 21 & Sunday, October 22 – More than 1,000 furry friends are waiting for you to take them to their new forever home. Come out and meet these wonderful big dogs, small dogs, senior animals, puppies and kittens. All are spayed, neutered, microchipped and up to date on their vaccinations. The event is free to attend, but adoptions are $35. A fast pass for early entry is available for $75. 10am to 5pm.

  • ArtoberFest in Downtown Galveston | Saturday, October 21 & Sunday, October 22 – Stroll the streets of Galveston’s historic downtown cultural arts district, exploring works by more than 120 artists whom you can meet with, plus catch live music, art demonstrations, food and more. $5; free for ages 11 and under. Saturday 10am to 6pm; Sunday 10am to 5pm.
  • Starry Nite Arts Festival in Bellaire | Saturday, October 21 & Sunday, October 22 | FREE – Experience a traditional Asian night market with authentic street food, bingo, art, and live entertainment at the return of the in-person, family-friendly Starry Nite Festival in Houston’s Asiatown. Saturday 3pm to 9pm; Sunday 2pm to 7pm.
  • A Bayou City Picnic presents Fall Picnic at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center | Sunday, October 22 – Experience the wonder of nature and the serenity of your surroundings with a picnic experience that includes all the essentials. Choose two or more sandwiches or a charcuterie selection and enjoy a six-pack of Saint Arnold beer. When you’re finished, place everything back in the basket and drop it off at the pickup location in the park. $75 and up. 11:30am to 1pm.
  • Three Graces One Pot Cook Off at Post Oak Ice House | Sunday, October 22 – Part chili cookoff, part stew stampede, part gumbo gauntlet and part dessert delight, the all-delicious one pot showdown at Post Oak Ice House offers everyone a chance to grab a sampling cup and judge their favorite tastes. $20 and up. 1pm to 5pm.
  • 2023 ALCS: Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers at Minute Maid Park | Sunday, October 22 – If necessary, the Astros return home to Minute Maid for a massive Game 6 against heated rivals from up I-45, with the World Series on the line. First-run tickets are sold out, but you may find hard-to-get tickets on the TicketNetwork resale marketplace. 7pm.
