• Katt Williams at NRG Arena | Thursday, October 14 & Friday, October 15 – The comedian and actor, who most recently can be seen in his Netflix stand-up special, Great America, lands in Houston for back-to-back nights of Williams’ biting commentary on the hot topics of today. Tickets range from $59 to more than $250, but you may find better or cheaper seats using the TicketNetwork online marketplace. Thursday 7:30pm; Friday 8pm.
• Kane Brown at Toyota Center | Friday, October 15 – The award-winning country artist blurs the line between country and R&B, collaborating with musicians across the spectrum, including Chris Young, Becky G, Khalid and John Legend. Now, he’ll make a stop in Downtown after his Rodeo 2020 performance was cancelled. Tickets range from $40.50 to $99.50, but you may find better or cheaper seats using the TicketNetwork online marketplace. 7pm.
• Mavis Staples Series Spectacular at Discovery Green | Friday, October 15 | FREE – One of the greatest gospel and soul singers to ever grace the stage will make her way to the Discovery Green stage in Downtown for a free show that headlines the ongoing Jazzy Sundays in the Parks concert series taking place across Houston. 7:30pm.
• 2021 Houston Fringe Festival at MATCH | Friday, October 15 to Sunday, October 17 – Across one weekend, the Houston Fringe Festival puts on three packed evenings of dance, music, film, storytelling, drag and performance art featuring a unique roster of fringe artists. Single night admission is $15 in advance, $20 at the door, free for ages 10 and under. Weekend passes are $35, plus fees. Friday and Saturday 8pm; Sunday 7:30pm.
• Pumpkin Patch Fall Festival at Nature Discovery Center in Bellaire | Saturday, October 16 & Sunday, October 17 | No Cover – For one weekend in October, the Hana and Arthur Ginzbarg Nature Discovery Center hosts a fall festival featuring fun games, crafts, foods, photo ops, animal encounters and a pumpkin patch ripe for picking. 11am to 4pm.
• Oktoberfest at Galveston Island Brewing | Saturday, October 16 | No Cover – Toast to the island life at the currently-expanding Galveston Island Brewing, just a stone’s throw from the beach. They’ll have their newest Oktoberfest release, fresh pretzels, and other family-friendly fun on the spacious patio. Noon to 8pm.
• BLCK Market XPO: Fashion & Boutique at Buffalo Soldiers National Museum | Saturday, October 16 – The monthly market series (and new retail spot in Pearland) holds another edition of their quarterly XPO market, which features industry-focused vendors. This month, shop your latest looks from fashion and boutique booths. Limited free admissions are available in advance; $5 after that; free for ages 12 and under. 1pm to 5pm.
• Tacolandia 2021 at the Water Works at Buffalo Bayou | Saturday, October 16 – Unlimited taco samples are coming your way at Houston Press’ annual Tacolandia event (so long as you purchase a ticket, of course). This year’s vendor lineup includes Hughie’s, Los Tios, Pacific Coast Tacos, Tatemó and more, all ready to dish out the good stuff to the backdrop of the Houston skyline. Tickets are $35 for general admission and $75 for VIP. 4pm to 7pm (VIP entry at 3pm).
• Viva Latin America at Wortham Center | Saturday, October 16 – Closing out Hispanic Heritage Month, the Houston Latin American Philharmonic returns to their annual tradition, performing a concert program of cultural highlights that include a tribute to “Los Blanco,” “El Milagro de tus Ojos,” “Bailame” and much more. Tickets range from $29 to $86. 8pm.
• Fall Artisan Market at Megaton Brewery | Sunday, October 17 | No Cover – The Kingwood brewery is busting out their big fall market with 80 local vendors, plus live music, globally-inspired foods, tasty craft beer, and even axe throwing. This is also a pet-friendly market. 10am to 4pm.
• Houston Dash vs. Portland Thorns FC at BBVA Stadium | Sunday, October 17 – In their final home game of the regular season, the Dash will host one of the strongest teams in the league, Portland Thorns FC, that includes USWNT champions Lindsey Horan, Meghan Klingenberg, and Becky Sauerbrunn. Tickets range from $12 to more than $50, but you may find better or cheaper seats using the TicketNetwork online marketplace. 6pm.
• TUTS presents Rock of Ages at Hobby Center for the Performing Arts | Ongoing to Sunday, October 17 – This big-hearted musical featuring big power ballads from big-hair 1980s bands is the story of an aspiring rock star yearning for his big break. That’s hard enough, but things really start to go awry when developers show up with plans to flatten the venue he’s hoping will launch him to stardom. Tickets start at $40. Times vary.
