For more than 40 years, May brings with it an opportunity to explore vibrant cultures and histories throughout Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.
There’s no shortage of ways to celebrate APAH Month and to highlight that fact, Asia Society Texas Center in the Museum District offers a daily slate of events, ideas, and inspirations across May that elevate the personal stories, contributions and experiences of Asian and Asian American communities.

- Summoning Memories: Art Beyond Chinese Traditions | Daily | FREE – Throughout the month of May, Asia Society Texas’ art exhibition will be open for free admission to all. The exhibition highlights works by over 30 contemporary artists of Chinese descent who reinterpret traditions in dynamic and innovative ways, using experimentation to draw on both Eastern and Western art-making practices and materials.
- Bank of America Women’s Leadership Series: Houston’s Leading News Anchors | Thursday, May 18, 2023 – Notable Houston women news anchors—Melanie Lawson, Pooja Lodhia, and Rekha Muddaraj—discuss the joys and challenges of being female journalists and news anchors of color. $50; $32.50 for members. 6pm.
- Symposium: Summoning Traditions: Art Beyond Chinese Traditions | Friday, May 19, 2023 | FREE with RSVP – Explore the cultural, historical, and artistic themes in the Summoning Memories exhibition at a free day of activities including a gallery tour, panel discussions, and a keynote presentation by guest curator, Dr. Susan L. Beningson. Advance registration required. 9am to 6pm.
- The Internet & Hate Speech in a Post-Truth Society | Thursday, May 25 | FREE with RSVP – Gathering the minds of academia, digital media and machine learning engineering, Asia Society hosts this panel discussion which examines the ways the internet has served as a platform for alarming rises in digital hate speech. Advance registration required. 6:30pm to 9pm.
- Members-Only Reception & Tour of Summoning Memories: Art Beyond Chinese Traditions | Wednesday, May 31, 2023 | FREE – Asia Society Texas members are invited to an exclusive reception celebrating Summing Memories, with light bites and wine, conversation and a docent-led gallery tour. 6pm.
