Channel your kid’s inner Picasso during a full hour of themed stories, art and activities with classes at Memory Makers, located in a warm home in Old Katy.
Though this class is billed as an art class for kids, it encompasses so much more. Each monthly session follows a new theme, from Candy Land, to Where the Wild Things Are, to the Polar Express. Each month, the art projects, activities and stories are all centralized around this central theme. The class opens with story time, as students circle around to hear the tale. After the story, the kiddos get instructions on their art project.
These aren’t your preschool art projects. These are no color-by-number, stay-in-the-lines type of undertaking. These are creatively planned mini-works of art that allow your child to use his or her imagination while learning valuable skills. Kids don’t just paint, but use a variety of mediums that allow them to explore the different properties of various materials. Not only are these projects you’ll be glad your kid is doing, you’ll be even more glad that they are doing them in someone else’s space and you’re spared the clean up.
After reading the story, creating and cleaned everyone up from the art, there is still more fun to be had. A special activity rounds out the day. Whether it is playing a life-sized game of Candy Land, erupting a volcano, or going on a treasure hunt, every kid will be actively engaged and have a great time. At some point after class a toddler-sized dance party ensues, complete with ribbon sticks.
The classes are held at a re-purposed house in Old Katy that is bursting with charm and energy. Ms. Debbie, the founder of Memory Makers, breathes life in to the stories, art, and activities. She’s been involved in education for decades and has a talent for growing young minds. Memory Makers also offers music and yoga for young people as well as event planning.
