Shake things up at Afropolitan, Houston’s largest Afro-Caribbean mixer

Mix, mingle and connect with member of Houston’s African diaspora at this month’s Afropolitan mixer and party at Kress Ultra Lounge on Friday, May 20, 2016.

The monthly gathering and celebration spans industries and professions, bringing together Houston residents born in Africa or in Afro-Caribbean nations. All are welcome at this event celebrating both the vibrant cultures of the native African countries and professional life here Houston.

The event kicks off at 6pm with social time for networking, with a live painting demonstration by Don Gaines that starts at 7:30pm.

Guests can nosh on flavorful African and Caribbean bites, including suya, jerk chicken wings, fried plantains, and more.

At 8pm, the crowd gets moving as skilled DJs spin dance tracks that take the party on an Afro-Caribbean musical journey.

Attendance is free with an RSVP, if you are checked in by 7pm (it’s recommended that you arrive by 6:30pm to be sure you’re in by 7pm). Click here to RSVP.

The Afropolitan Movement

The event is part of the larger Afropolitan movement, connecting professionals in the African diaspora in five major cities around the United States. The monthly social gatherings are designed to create a national platform that brings diaspora members together for fun and entertainment, while sharing the vibrancy and variety of African cultures with a wider audience.

In addition to Houston,, Afropolitan currently hosts monthly events in Washington DC, Baltimore, New York City, and Miami. Across the five cities, it attracts more than 3,000 young professionals each month.
