- Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Wizard of Oz Musical | Daily – Follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new production of The Wizard of Oz plays at the Hobby Center.
- NobleMotion Dance presents Unplugged at the Barn | Thursday through Saturday – Enjoy a more intimate dance performance from one of Houston’s most athletic companies, with live musical accompaniment from Musiqa. 8pm nightly.
- Theatre Suburbia presents Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily | Friday and Saturday – Holmes and his assistant Dr. Watson come face-to-face with Oscar Wilde and actress Lily Langtry in this clever Victorian romp that blends fact and fiction. Discount tickets available.
- River Oaks Garden Club’s Azalea Trail | Friday through Sunday – Spy Houston’s blooming pink, purple, white, red, and yellow azaleas at this home and garden tour of Bayou Bend, Rienzi and four private Houston homes. $20. 11am to 5pm daily.
- 2014 Blacktop Battle Outside of Toyota Center | FREE to watch | Saturday & Sunday – Take in three-on-three basketball as teams from across Houston play street ball and vie for the championship title. Saturday 8am to 3pm; Sunday 8am to 2pm.

- Mid Main First Thursday Party and Scavenger Hunt | FREE – Enjoy free live music, art shows, drinks and bar bites at this monthly shindig in the Art Garden and throughout the shops of Mid Main. Participants in this month’s Scavenger Hunt have a chance to win $100. 5pm to midnight.
- Mark Rothko: Traveler to the Sublime Presentation and Reception at Rothko Chapel – Annie Cohen-Solal, PhD, author of the forthcoming biography of Mark Rothko, discusses Rothko’s complex trajectory between Russia, the United States and his return to Europe. Reception follows on the plaza. $10. 7pm to 8:30pm.
- Reba in Concert at Rodeo Houston – America’s “Queen of Country” will be packing them in at Reliant Stadium. You can likely beat Ticketmaster for cheaper or better seats by using TicketNetwork’s resale market.

- Opening Reception for Games at East End Studio Gallery | FREE – Up and coming Houston-based artist Rafael Villarreal is showcased in this exhibition. 6pm to 9pm.
- Houston Rockets vs. Indiana Pacers – Houston faces off against Indiana. Tickets are still available but you’ll likely find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s resale market.
- French Cultures Festival Kickoff Concert at Discovery Green | FREE – Enjoy three hours of live music with contemporary French musicians La Femme and Lys, along with Houston natives Wild Moccasins, at this concert event to launch Texas-French Alliance For The Arts’ monthly series of events celebrating the French cultures that helped shape our region. 7pm to 10pm.
- More Broadway at the Box at The Music Box Theater – Catch a comedic evening filled with live performances of hit Broadway songs as The Music Box Theater presents an all-new tribute to the Great White Way. Discount tickets available.
- The Space Ball – Fresh Arts Annual Gala at Silver Street Studios – Beam yourself up to Fresh Arts’ latest flight of fancy as the art group’s free-spirited annual gala takes on all things Sci-Fi and outer space. Enjoy music from DJ Lady Bunny and HaviKoro Crew, aerial dancing by Vault, and other out-of-this world surprises. Star Wars, Star Trek and all other space-themed attire will be the norm. - Strawberry picking and more at Blessington Farms in Simonton – Fill up a basket for $5 a pound with fresh strawberries you pluck from the patch yourself.
- FUNomenal Family Festival at Discovery Green | FREE – Bring the family out to Discovery Green Park for music, dancing, foam parties, performances from Baby Isaac and Friends, games and rides. 10am to 6pm.
- The Houston Chili Cook-off 2014 at Eleven XI – Houston Young Professionals presents a Saturday afternoon cook-off pitting teams against each other in a bid for chili supremacy and offering up delicious tastes and libations to attendees. $5 in advance; $10 day of the event. 10am to 2pm.
- Rice Village Flea Market | FREE – Browse antiques, vintage items, furniture and other curiosities at this monthly flea market at the corner of Times and Morningside. 11am to 6pm.
- 1836 Fest at Cottonwood – Enjoy live Texas music from The Sons of Fathers, Band of Heathens, J. Charles and the Trainrobbers and more along with craft brews and Houston food trucks at this all day party to celebrate the end of Texas Independence Week. Noon to 10pm.
- BPCCA’s Heritage Day and Black Rodeo – Black Professional Cowboys and Cowgirls Association presents a day of black rodeo events and festivities, with rodeo competition and music from Lil’ Nate and the Zydeco BigTimers and Brian Jack and the Zydeco Gamblers. Noon to about 9pm.
- Brazilian Carnival for Kids at the Brazilian Arts Foundation Cultural Center – Kids will enjoy Brazilian snacks, crafts, games and more at this low-key family gathering organized by Brazilian Arts Foundation. $5 ages 2 to 12, $2 adults pre-sale; $7 and $3 at the door. 2pm to 5pm.
- Houston Dynamo vs. New England Revolution – The Dynamo kick off their 2014 season at home, taking on the boys from New England. 7:30pm. You’ll likely find the cheapest or best seats for the same price on TicketNetwork’s resale market.
- Winter Jam Christian Concert at Toyota Center – See Newsboys and Lecrae lead a line-up that includes Christian musicians Tenth Avenue North, Thousand Foot Krutch, Plumb, NewSong and Colton Dixon. $10. 6pm.
- The Miracle Worker at the Grand in Galveston – Montana Repertory Theater presents William Gibson’s play about Helen Keller and her teacher Annie Sullivan, who was able to give the blind, deaf and mute girl the gift of language. Discount tickets available.
- SamulNori Korean Percussion Ensemble at Wortham Theater Center – Feel the entrancing beats of SamulNori, a dancing Korean percussion ensemble performing traditional Korean music and dances with a fresh and enthralling modern energy at Wortham Theater Center. Discounted seats available. 8pm
- Chris Young in Concert at Rodeo Houston – Country star Young returns to Houston to close out the Saturday night Rodeo events. Instead of Ticketmaster, you’ll find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s resale market.
- Childish Gambino in Concert at the House of Blues – See the former Community star and comedian, and now rapper, Donald Glover when he brings his high-energy The Deep Web Tour to Downtown Houston. 9pm.
- Clutch City Squire 1st Anniversary Party and March Bayou Boogie – In honor of the popular Downtown bar’s birthday, this month’s Bayou Boogie will be extra special, as Houston’s longest-running all-vinyl funk, soul and rock and roll collective spins the choicest cuts and tracks from the golden 50s, 60s and 70s.

- 25th Annual AIDS Walk Houston at Sam Houston Park – Join thousands of Houstonians and Grand Marshall George Foreman for a Sunday morning walk and raise money to continue the fight against AIDS.
- Karbach Brewscruise – Craft Beer Bike Crawl to Houston’s Creek Cafes – Starting out at Cedar Creek in the Heights, riders join in a progressive party that explores Houston’s bike paths and visits the other Creek locations. $15 gets you a beer ticket and a T-shirt and goes to support The Byke Project. Noon to 6pm.
- Family Day: Persian New Year Celebration at Asia Society Texas Center – Celebrate Nowruz, which marks the start of the Iranian calendar, with family friendly art activities, performances and related interactive experiences. Free for Asia Society members. $5 non members; $15 families of four; $20 families of five. 1pm to 4pm.
- Traditional Irish Music from the West of Ireland by the Brock McGuire Band – Experience traditional Irish tunes from button accordionist and melodeonist Paul Brock and fiddler Manus McGuire, two of Ireland’s most celebrated traditional musicians, at this special performance at the University of St. Thomas’ Cullen Hall. $15 ages 13 and up; $10 seniors; free for ages 12 and under. 4pm to 6pm.
- Somm Sunday at Camerata at Paulie’s – Test your palate with blind wine tastings all day at Paul Petronella‘s Camarata. If you guess two out of three correctly, then all three wines are on the house. 4pm to close.
- Houston Rockets vs. Portland Trail Blazers – Houston takes on the Pacific Northwest. Tickets are available via Toyota Center, but you’ll likely find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s resale market. 6pm.

- Sundown Rio do Sol – Carnaval do Brazil at Proof Rooftop Lounge in Midtown – See the Brazilian samba dancers of LD Dance Company (pictured above) at Proof in Midtown as they’re joined by bateristas, guest DJs, a live drummer and sax player, stilt walkers, a snake woman, Brazilian face and body painting, complimentary beads and masks. $10 general admission; $5 early bird admission. 5pm to 10pm.
