Embark on a story of love and mistaken identity set in Venice at the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston’s The Gondoliers at Wortham Theater Center from Friday, July 21 through Sunday, July 23, 2017.

The twelfth collaboration between William Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan (which originally premiered in London in December 1889), The Gondoliers tells the story of two Venetian gondoliers and how their lives are turned upside down shortly after they marry their sweethearts.

It’s quickly discovered that one of the two gondoliers, either Marco or Giuseppe, is actually prince of the kingdom of Barataria. Smuggled away as an infant, no one is sure which of the two is actually royalty. They must rule jointly as one individual until their nursemaid from infancy can identify the true king.

Topping things off, the prince was married as a baby to the Duke of Plaza-Toro’s daughter, Casilda. Therefore, to gain a crown, the royal gondolier will lose his wife.

What will the crown prince do, and will true love prevail? Find out at The Gondoliers, in the heart of Downtown at the Wortham Theater Center.
