Retreat to the Woodlands Resort

Make a quick getaway from the bustle of the city at the Woodlands Resort and Conference Center, hidden amidst a lush forest just 30 minutes from Downtown.

Tucked away in the tall stately trees north of Houston and embraced by sparkling lakes, you’ll find The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center situated on 350 acres and fronting two championship golf courses. Although it’s definitely still in the Houston metro area, it seems worlds away.

Whether you’re staying for a night or a four-day weekend, you’ll find everything you need to keep yourself content without ever leaving the resort. But should you want to get out, then the Woodlands Waterway, Market Street shopping and dining, outdoor concerts at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and more are a few minutes away by shuttle.

Activities and Relaxation

The resort buildings are surrounded by the native forest that gives The Woodlands its name, and those woods are filled with outdoor recreation possibilities. The hotel boasts five swimming pools, including the elaborate Forest Oasis Waterscape, which flows around palm tree islands and features pop fountains and a double helix racing slide (open between Memorial Day and Labor Day only). Guests may also explore 190 miles of hike and bike trails and make good use of the 21 indoor and outdoor tennis courts.

The resort also offers easy access to 36 holes of championship golf, with the challenging tree-lined Panther Trail that culminates in a unique island finishing green and The Oaks Course, offering golfers of all skill levels the chance to hone their game from four tee sets.

The spa also offers a number of packages and treatments in separate facilities for men and women including saunas, eucalyptus steam rooms and whirlpool hot tubs.

Food and Drink

The flagship restaurant of the property, The Woodlands Dining Room overlooks both Lake Harrison and The Oaks Golf Course. Competing with the views through the large picture windows, the exhibition kitchen ensures that the food preparation is part of the show. A more intimate spot, with killer views of its own, the Royal Mile Grille offers food and libations overlooking the 18th tee. The Lobby Bar is also on hand to offer a quick drink in the afternoon and into the evenings and also boasts shuffleboard and billiard tables.

Growth and Expansion

The Woodlands Resort is currently undergoing an $60-million expansion and renovation. But aside from seeing the new building going up when you drive by it, you may not notice the growth. The focus is thankfully primarily on new areas, meaning that the existing pools, guest room areas and main building welcome guests with little or no distraction. In addition, although the existing guest rooms are very crisp, comfortable modern, they are also quietly being renovated as well.

Expect the new addition to include a new guest room wing, a new steak house overlooking the 18th green of the Panther Trail golf course, and a 1,000 foot lazy river when it is complete in Summer 2014.
