  • Twenty One Pilots in Concert at Toyota Center | Wednesday, September 4 – Alternative rock and hip hop duo Tyler Joseph and Josh Dunn, known for hits like “Stressed Out” and “Heathens” ride into Downtown on the Clancy World Tour. $59 and up. 8pm.
  • The Tunnel Opening Night at Discovery Green | Thursday, September 5 | FREE with RSVP – Discovery Green debuts its new interactive fall nighttime art installation while its creator Paul Magnuson of Big Art discusses its installation’s origin and other exciting art projects. The evening begins with drinks and mingling, followed by the discussion. RSVP required. The Tunnel will be on view nightly through Sunday, October 6, 2024. 6pm to 8pm. 
  • All Things Equal: The Life & Trials of Ruth Bader Ginsburg at Hobby Center | Thursday, September 5 & Friday, September 6 – From losing her mother the day before she graduated high school to her rise to the United States Supreme Court, this one-woman play by Rupert Holmes and starring Michelle Aziz explores the justice’s extraordinary life. See how she rose from law student to the “notorious” RBG. $49 and up. 7:30pm.
  • Galactic Empire in Concert at Warehouse Live Midtown | Friday, September 6 – The cult sensation known for its guitar-heavy metal reinterpretations of classic and modern Star Wars theme, mostly written by John Williams, alters the deal in a fan-pleasing show in Midtown. $25. 6:30pm.
  • DaCamera presents Endea Owens & The Cookout in Concert at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Friday, September 6 | FREE – One of jazz’s most vibrant emerging artists, Owens graduated from Julliard and immediately became part of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert house band, Stay Human. Her work has been featured in Judas and the Black Messiah, and she’s the winner of Emmy, Grammy and George Foster Peabody awards. 8pm.
  • Jo Koy at Toyota Center | Friday, September 6 – Known for filing up stadiums around North America and beyond, Jo Koy returns to H-Town for crowd-pleasing comedy in the heart of Downtown. $49.50 and up. 8pm.
  • Red Bull Showrun at Discovery Green | Saturday, September 7 | FREE – Oracle Red Bull Racing make its Houston debut when its award-winning race car, RB7, pulls off flawless donuts and roaring burnouts on a custom-built temporary track surrounding the park. Fan zone from 10am to 3pm; Red Bull Showrun from noon to 2pm.
  • First Saturday Arts Market in the Heights | FREE – The 20-year strong market returns from its summer hiatus featuring artisan goods and works from dozens of local artists at the popular monthly family-friendly market on West 19th Street. 10am to 5pm (may close sooner depending on weather).
  • Barbie Movie Screening at Hendley Green | Saturday, September 7 | FREE – The movie finale to Galveston’s Strand Summer Series (the live local music finale follows next week to full close out the summer) is the 2023 blockbuster starring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, and a long list of familiar names and faces. 6:30pm to 9pm.
  • Spring Awakening at Rec Room Arts | Opens Saturday, September 7 | Ongoing – The smash Broadway musical is the story of adolescent anarchy, teenagers silenced and controlled by a censoring society, and the devastating consequences of the freedom students find outside of the classroom. $21 and up. 7:30pm.
  • Galveston Sand Crab Night Beach 5K, 10K & Kid Mile at East Beach | Saturday, September 7 – Everyone’s welcome at a night run on the beach, complete with food vendors and beers from Galveston Island Brewing, music, and more. $80. 8pm to 11pm.
  • Katy Home Improvement Expo at the Merrell Center | Saturday, September 7 & Sunday, September 8 | FREE – Get inspo for everything from kitchen and bathroom remodels to outdoor living spaces, with curated exhibitors bringing the tools and inspiration to transform your house into the home of your dreams. Times vary.
  • Japan Festival at Hermann Park | Saturday, September 7 & Sunday, September 8 | FREE – The popular annual festival returns, bringing with it the culture and history of Japan. This year’s festival coincides with MFAH’s Meiji Modern: Fifty Years of New Japan, celebrating the four remarkable Meiji decades that propelled Japan into the modern era. 10am to 6pm.
  • Indo-American Association presents Sonam Kalra Performances Around Houston | Saturday, September 7 & Sunday, September 8 – The multiple award-winning Sufi singer, songwriter and composer performs two distinct shows in the heart of Houston, kicking off with the concert Ibadat: The Voice Within, Sonam Kalra at The Hobby Center on Saturday, followed by the musical and visual multimedia event Sarhad – Partition: Stories of Separation at MATCH in Midtown. Locations and times vary.
  • Childish Gambino in Concert at Toyota Center | Sunday, September 8 – The artist also known as Donald Glover comes to Houston as part of a new world tour. The actor, singer, rapper and writer brings his chart-topping, Grammy-nominated style to the stage downtown. Willow opens. $39.50 and up. 8pm.
