- Transcending Borders: The Ramayana Project at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Friday, August 30 | FREE – Asia Society Texas presents music and dance reflecting Vietnamese, Khmer, Thai, Lao, and Burmese communities, representing the pains of departure from homelands. 8pm.
- A.D. Players presents Esther at the George Theater | Friday, August 30 | Ongoing – Multiple dance forms and production elements combine for a bold, visceral, new rendition of the story of the biblical queen. It’s a tale of strength, faith and strategy, as Esther navigates palace life with an all-powerful king. Be among the first to see this production, making a pre-Broadway tryout here in Houston. This production runs through Sunday, September 22. $36 and up. Showtimes vary.
- Tee Zee productions presents Papa Où T’es? at MATCH | Opens August 30 – This world premiere is a coming-of-age story set in Houston and following four high school friends—Ahmad, Aly, Zain, and Maaria, all second-generation Americans. They grapple with identity crises and the clash between cultural and religious expectations and their personal aspirations. How does the absence of a father impact it all? This production contains adult themes and depictions of violence. Showtimes vary.
- Mercury Chamber Orchestra: Vivaldi & Telemann at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Saturday, August 31 | FREE – Joined by recorder virtuoso Vincent Lauzer, Mercury performs a program of Baroque favorites by Vivaldi, Telemann, and Handel under the stars in Hermann Park. 8pm.
