Ring in summer at the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center for a Summer Solstice Wine and Cheese Celebration on Friday, June 21, 2013.

Friday, June 21 is the longest day of the year. It may finally be getting very hot outside, but at least we can take comfort that, after today the days won’t be getting any longer.

Raise a glass of wine and toast the arrival of summer – and gradually shorter days – at the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. They’ll be hosting a wine and cheese reception on the Arboretum meadow deck. Tai Chi instructor Greg Illich will provide a short history of solstice celebrations around the world and offer a brief Tai Chi demonstration. Attendees can try some of these easier Tai Chi movements for size – or they can stick to their wine and cheese.
