Catch some of the city’s most exciting upcoming performances, happening all month long, with our roundup of live theater and performing arts productions in June 2024.

This month brings a huge slate of performing arts to stages across Houston, including a new Broadway production, Tamarie Cooper’s summer show, and several spring performances drawing their final curtains.

From classical music and regional play premieres to musicals and dance, there’s something for every taste and budget.

Opening This Month

  • 35th Annual Accordion Kings & Queens Concert at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Saturday, June 1 | FREE – This highly anticipated annual concert of the state’s most dynamic performers will feature Las Fenix, 3x Grammy Award winner Sunny Sauceda, and Marcus Ardoin & Da Zydeco Legendz. The evening is a showcase of the diverse styles of accordion music performed in Texas. 7pm.
  • Houston Chamber Choir presents The Voice of Brubeck at Stude Concert Hall | Saturday, June 1 – The Grammy-winning choir is joined by Chris and Dan Brubeck and other special guests in a program that celebrates Dave Brubeck’s contributions to jazz and his work with new musical forms. $45; some discounts available. 7:30pm.
  • The Selfish Giant at Asia Society Texas | Saturday, June 1 & Sunday, June 2 – In this ingenious production by Taiwan’s The Puppet & Its Double Theater, The Selfish Giant brings to life Oscar Wilde’s beloved story of a selfish giant who learns about the true meaning of friendship and generosity through the innocence of children. $20. Times vary.
  • Houston Symphony presents An Alpine Symphony at Jones Hall | Saturday, June 1 & Sunday, June 2 – Envision flower-filled meadows, sparkling glaciers, and a breathtaking view from the summit when Music Director Juraj Valčuha leads one of the natural wonders of the music world, Strauss’s An Alpine Symphony in Downtown. $35 and up. Saturday 8pm; Sunday 2:30pm.

  • Paul Hope Cabaret presents Ultra Lounge: Tikis in the Mist at Ovations Nightclub | Mondays, June 3 to June 17 – Enjoy tiki-themed cocktails while taking in a performance of songs from the 1950s and ‘60s, guaranteed to put you into the summer spirit. Expect selections like “Beyond the Sea,” “Misty” and more. $20 and up. Mondays at 7:30pm.
  • Broadway Across America presents Hairspray at Hobby Center | Tuesday, June 4 to Sunday, June 9 – You can’t stop the beat in this fun musical based on the John Waters film. It’s the story of Tracy Turnblad, an overweight teen who wants a chance to dance in the spotlight in 1960s Baltimore. Audiences will love watching her trying to make her dream come true. $35 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • Mercury presents Baroque to Boleros at Discovery Green | Wednesday, June 5 | FREE – Members of the Mercury orchestra present this community concert celebrating centuries of music from across Latin America. Expect fun baroque dances and fiery boleros sung by mezzo-soprano Cecilia Duarte. 8pm.
  • Houston Ballet presents Four Seasons at Wortham Center | Thursday, June 6 to Sunday, June 16 – This mixed rep program showcases the ballet’s depth of artistry. Four dances, including Tchaikovsky’s Pas de Deux and the world premiere of choreographer Dwight Rhoden’s The Four Seasons, set to the recognizable music of Antonio Vivaldi highlight the program. $45 and up. Showtimes vary.

  • ROCO presents Magnetic at Kinder High School for the Performing & Visual Arts | Friday, June 7 | FREE – This concert highlights ROCO’s innovative approach to classical music, along with its commitment to showcasing new works. Expect an evening of favorites and ROCO commissions, along with the premiere of a work by one of the finalists of the EarShot Call for Scores by early-career female composers. 11am.
  • The Star-Spangled Girl at Unity Brenham | Thursday, June 13 to Sunday, June 30 – The Brenham theater presents Neil Simon’s comedy about a pair of guys using their apartment to publish a subversive magazine, and what happens when a girl with a sparkling personality moves in down the hall. $30; $15 for students. Showtimes vary.
  • Betrayal at Rec Room Arts | Saturday, June 15 | Ongoing – Harold Pinter’s play about a love triangle unfolds backwards. We meet the lovers at the end of their illicit affair, and watch it return to its origin, exploring power dynamics, love and friendship. This production runs through Saturday, July 6. $40; Wednesday shows are $5. 7:30pm.
  • Catastrophic Theatre presents Tamarie’s Texas Toast! at MATCH | Thursday, June 20 | Ongoing – It’s not summer without the annual chaos from the mind of Tamarie Cooper. This year’s show finds Cooper and her merry maniacs delivering a production as big as the Lone Star State. Expect references to high school football, gas station beavers, flag parades, giant roaches, tons of guns, the glory of Whataburger and so much more. This production runs through Saturday, August 3. Pay-what-you-can. Showtimes vary.

Closing This Month

  • Dance Source Houston presents Barnstorm Dance Fest at MATCH | Through Saturday, June 1 – Celebrating the breadth, depth, and diversity of dance in Greater Houston and beyond, this festival is an exciting sampling of dance genres. Expect a weekend of performances, workshops and more. $25. Showtimes vary.
  • Houston Ballet presents Mayerling at Wortham Center | Through Sunday, June 2 – With choreography by Sir Kenneth MacMillan and a score by Franz Liszt, this ballet is the story of Crown Prince Rudolf, the sole heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the 1880s. It follows scandal and political intrigue through an unhappy marriage, sensuous dalliances and morbid obsessions, leading to tragic consequences. $25 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • TUTS presents Disney’s Newsies at Hobby Center | Through Sunday, June 2 – The wildly popular musical tells the story of a band of newspaper boys and their allies, who stand up to some of New York City’s most powerful publishers. This new production of the crowd-pleasing show should be a family favorite. $40 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • On Midnight, Friday the 13th at Ensemble Theatre | Through Sunday, June 2 – As family and friends gather for the reading of Angus Black’s will, an intriguing and hilarious journey unfolds. Hilarious, that is, unless you are the next person to join Angus in the afterlife. $37 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • Dirt Dogs Theatre presents Appropriate at MATCH | Through Saturday, June 8 – When members of the Lafayette clan gather at the Arkansas home of their recently deceased patriarch, they make a horrifying discovery. What secrets lie beneath their father’s junk and hoarded mementos? $30. Showtimes vary.
  • Stages presents Othello: The Remix at the Gordy | Through Sunday, June 9 – This hip-hop adaptation finds an onstage DJ spinning Shakespeare’s legendary masterpiece of jealousy, revenge and passion. The show was a New York Times critics pick, and is sure to showcase the story in a whole new light. $25 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • On the Verge Theatre presents Love, Loss & What I Wore at the Alta Arts | Through Sunday, June 9 – By turn hilarious and poignant, this comedy by Nora and Delia Ephron, based on the book by Ilene Beckerman explores the importance of clothing in women’s lives. $20 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • Taking Steps at Main Street Theater | Through Sunday, June 16 – In this British farce, a solicitor has bitten off more than he can chew, overseeing the sale of a crumbling, possibly haunted house that used to be a brothel. Two couples, the solicitor and a realtor get caught up in chaos in this Alan Aykbourn play. $35 and up. Showtimes vary.
  • Stages presents The Case for the Existence of God at the Gordy | Through Sunday, June 30 – From the writer of the Oscar-winning The Whale comes this story of Ryan and Keith, who form an unlikely friendship after meeting at their daughters’ daycare. Together, they navigate fatherhood, loneliness, and the confounding terms of a mortgage loan. $25 and up. Showtimes vary.
