  • Scream on the Green at Discovery Green | Friday, October 27 | FREE – The free family-friendly celebration returns to Discovery Green with a night of costume contests, a dance party, roaming performers from Cirque Olympus and a lawn screening of Hocus Pocus. 6pm to 10pm.
  • Sonido Gallo Negro in Concert at Axelrad | Friday, October 27 | FREE – The nine-piece from Mexico City brings the sounds of 1960s Peruvian cumbia to the neon garden in Midtown. The band integrates styles like Amazonian cumbia, huayno, cumbia sonidera, boogaloo and chicha (Peruvian cumbia) with electric guitars, Farfisa organ, theremin, flute and of course fluid Latin percussion. 8pm.
  • Island Oktoberfest at First Lutheran Church of Galveston | Friday, October 27 & Saturday, October 28 | FREE – Galveston’s family-friendly festival returns for its 41st year, offering a weekend of free entertainment, food, rides and games. Enjoy traditional German food and drink while you take in a slate of polka performers on both days. Friday 5pm to 10pm; Saturday 11am to 10pm.
  • Performing Arts Houston presents Step Afrika! Drumfolk at Wortham Center | Friday, October 27 & Saturday, October 28 – A little-known historic event in the early 18th century stripped Africans of the right to use their drums—but it couldn’t stop the music, whose beats became infused in their bodies. Presented by the first professional dance company dedicated to stepping, this event offers expressions of endurance, hope and unity. $39 and up. 7:30pm.
  • Fall Festival at Urban Harvest Saturday Farmers Market | Saturday, October 28 | FREE – Get a taste of autumn at the return of this fall festival to the city’s largest farmers market. Take in cooking demos, snap a photo in front of a fall scene, grab a free starter plant to take home, and enjoy plenty of family fun like arts and crafts, face painting, and more. 9am to 11am; market runs form 8am to noon.

  • Halloween Classic Car Show at the National Museum of Funeral History | Saturday, October 28 – The annual Halloween-themed car show returns to the North Houston museum of all thing funerary. Bring your treat bag trunk-to-trunk and check out the spooky decor on a slate of classic and modern vehicles. $10 per person; $15 per couple or family. 10am to 3pm.
  • MusicFest 2023 at Willow Waterhole | Saturday, October 28 | FREE – In Southwest Houston, the annual MusicFest offers a full day of live music from the worlds of R&B, blues, jazz, rock and Southern roots, plus Halloween activities like trunk-or-treating, Halloween photo ops, and a costume parade, a haunted house, food and drink. 11am to 7pm.
  • Hike, Bike & Fright Trick-or-Treat & Plant Market at M-K-T | Saturday, October 28 | FREE – M-K-T in the Heights celebrates Halloween with a free, family-friendly festival that takes over the entire center. The fourth annual event will include a Trick-or-Treat Trail, an outdoor plant market featuring more than 50 local vendors, live music and performances, special deals at M-K-T shops and restaurants, a pumpkin patch photo op, and more. Noon to 6pm.
  • Día de los Muertos Celebration at the Esplanade at Navigation | Saturday, October 28 | FREE – The Navigation Blvd. Esplanade in Second Ward is the site for a cultural celebration of eternal love that features a day of traditional music and dance performances, a local arts and vendors market, ofrendas, foods, margaritas and more. Noon to 7pm.
  • 15th Annual Halloween Crawl in Montrose | Saturday, October 28 | No Cover – This Halloween bar crawl along the Westheimer Curve returns for another year. Kick off the night at La Grange and Poison Girl, before heading out to Wild, Pistolero’s, Roswell’s Saloon and Boondocks. Prizes are handed out to best costume throughout the night. 7:30pm to 2am.

  • Spirits & Skeletons at Houston Museum of Natural Science | Saturday, October 28 – Party it up in HMNS after hours at the annual costumed bash held throughout the entire museum. Dance to live music from Danny Ray and the Atlantic Street Band as well as live DJs, enjoy food trucks outside and get down during spooky hours. $60. 8pm to 1am.
  • Halloween Ball at Post Houston | Saturday, October 28 – The X Atrium at Post is the site for a Halloween weekend party featuring a night of music, live performances by Aerial Acrobats, Polaroids, themed cocktails and other spooky fun. Costumes strongly encouraged. $39 and up. 9pm to 1:30am.
  • Día de Muertos Festival at MECA Houston | Saturday, October 28 & Sunday, October 29 | FREE – MECA’s annual two-day Día de los Muertos community festival in Sixth Ward returns, packed with delicious foods, live music and dance performances, arts and crafts activities, a local vendor market, artists, ofrendas and more. 11am to 7pm both days.
  • Halloween Town at Constellation Field | Sunday, October 29 – The ballpark in Sugar Land hosts another year of Halloween Town, featuring candy, vendors, a costume contest, rides, and much more. $11 and up. Noon to 5pm.
  • MLS Playoffs: Houston Dynamo FC vs. Real Salt Lake at Shell Energy Stadium | Sunday, October 29 – The Dynamo return to the playoffs, facing off against RSL in a best-of-3 series. $25 and up. 5pm.
  • Houston Rockets vs. Golden State Warriors at Toyota Center | Sunday, October 29 – The regular season home opener has arrived and the Rockets get a stiff test when they face Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Chris Paul and the Warriors on the Toyota Center court. $59 and up. 6pm.
