Check out Gonzo247‘s newest outdoor installation, Arte Sin Barreras (Art Without Boundaries), on the exterior and interior of a Hispanic-owned McDonald’s restaurant in southeast Houston in Fall 2021.
Located on the Gulf Freeway, between Wayside Drive and Brays Bayou, the colorful installation is part of the McDonald’s experience Ritmo y Color, celebrating the culture and collective pride of the Hispanic community during Hispanic Heritage Month.
Spanning Miami, Houston, and Los Angeles, the program was designed to elevate the voices and stories of Latinidad through pop-up art installations and free virtual concerts. Local graffiti artist Gonzo247 was invited to create the site-specific artwork in Houston.
Unveiled on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, Arte Sin Barreras will be on view through Fall 2021. And on Sunday, October 17, 2021, it will serve as a backdrop to a free virtual concert featuring reggaeton singer Nicky Jam at 7pm local time.
Arte Sin Barreras
“As the daughter of Cuban immigrants, I immediately connected with Gonzo247’s installation for my restaurant, which pays homage to his parents, grandparents and great grandparents who came to Texas from Mexico in search of a new life,” said Mariselle Quijano, local Houston McDonald’s owner/operator. “I’m thrilled that my restaurant will serve as the canvas for Gonzo’s artwork and invite the community to come experience it in person.”
“The artistic elements featured throughout the Ritmo y Color experience are all uniquely created for this Houston McDonald’s location,” said Gonzo247. “Ritmo y Color is the first time I have been invited to create a site-specific art adventure of this magnitude, and I’m really excited to see it come to life within the community.”
Virtual Concert featuring Nicky Jam
