See the world’s first Mariachi opera

Houston Grand Opera is bringing back its epic original Mexican-American opera, Cruzar la Cara de la Luna and you can grab a seat this Thursday through Sunday (March 21 to 24).

Returning to the stage at the Wortham Theater Center, the stirring and evocative Cruzar La Cara De La Luna (To Cross the Face of the Moon) tells the story of three generations and a man caught between the cultures of his immigrant father and American daughter. In the Houston Mariachi tradition, this performance is larger than life.

In true Mexican-American fashion, the production is sung in a mix of Spanish and English. Translations of both are projected so that everyone can follow the drama and music unfolding, regardless of their language skills.

The production stars the renowned group Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, whose mariachi and ranchera skills are perfectly suited for this unique production that the Chronicle called “a multi-cultural winner.”

See Houston Mariachi unlike anything you’ve ever seen at a fine Mexican restaurant or at a quinceañera.
