Immerse yourself in the magical atmosphere of dance artistry, and history at The National Ballet of Ukraine‘s contemporary interpretation of Sleeping Beauty on Thursday, May 24 and Don Quixote on Friday, May 25, 2018, at Revention Music Center.

In honor of its 150th anniversary, the National Ballet of Ukraine (NBU) will be performing in Houston for the very first time. The acclaimed dance company will present both productions on back-to-back nights, as part of its first-ever American tour.

Widely recognized in the world due to its unique executive techniques and extremely talented dancing cast, NBU is famous for combining classical ballet techniques with original Russian dancing methods.

Audiences will marvel at the strength and enchantment of NBU’s perfectly executed moves, which often make it seem that the dancers barely touch the floor and literally glide across the stage.

Sleeping Beauty

A widely-known classical adaptation executed by the Ukrainian National Ballet, Sleeping Beauty is known for its beautiful costumes, catchy characters, and brilliant diversity of musical parts.

Originally staged in 1938 for the first time by the NBU, the current version was updated only in 1990 by choreographer V. Lytvynov. It is one of the most elegant productions with distinguishing feature of requiring 42 artists on the stage at the same time during the performance.

Don Quixote

Starring the ever-talented Leonid Sarafanov, soloist of the Teatro alla Scala, this contemporary interpretation of the famed novel has become known as one of the most popular ballets around the world since its inception in the 20th Century.

Choreographed by M. Petipa and featuring music by L. Minkus, the NBU’s acting, mesmerizing costumes, and authentic decorations transport theater-goers to life in Spain in the 17th Century, picturing a story of a man, who rebelled against normality of the world.
